Play in the Stourbridge Monday football league powered by Leisure Leagues
The Stourbridge Monday 6-a-side Football League kick-started its new season yesterday with an action-packed series of matches across all divisions. Spectators watched in enthusiasm as teams battled it out on the field in an eagerly anticipated first week.
We did have two non-attendances as both VI Inches Combined and AFC Vexham gave the required 7 days notice to miss a game. We look forward to having both back when the league returns in the new year.
Unfortunately we did have a card on the night as there was an incident in the game between Haaland Globetrotters and Growler Out FC. A player from Haaland Globetrotters was sent from the field of play for violent conduct and has been permanently banned and fined £50 because of this. The league is very strict on discipline and always will deal with these incidents swiftly and accordingly each and every time so the league is a pleasant please to be each and every week.
In more positive news, in the Premier League, Unprotected Cesc narrowly lost to Celta Allstars in a thrilling 3-2 showdown as they kicked off the new season with a bang. Growler Out FC ran out 2-1 winners in the game mentioned above so have taken the win on this occasion and therefore get the win to start the season.
Division 1 saw Slumdog Mingolet reign victorious over Baz Ball FC with an impressive scoreline of 5-2. BBF United also started with a win as they were able to come out on top against LABEL FC inn a very tight 2-1 game.
West Midlands United F.C. were unable to fend off Bayern Neverlosen in Division 2, resulting in a 4-2 defeat. Talbot 6 and De Jong Boys played out an 8 goal thiller as both teams took a point in a 4-4 draw. Mirage United topped the leagues scoring chart for the week and they ran out big winners against Pique Blinders.
In Division 3, Scran City lost to Genoa Side in a tight match ending 2-1. Reserve Squad V2 and Gylfi Pleasures demonstrated their attacking prowess in a thrilling 3-3 draw. Hwang Onasec were impressive in there game against Paralympique Marseille running out 2-1 winners and showing there intent for the season.
Athletic Dildao scored a convincing 5-1 win over Waggon Wonderers in Division 4. Spignif Allstars started the season with a win as they ran out 1-0 winneers against Peter Larseon Kaffe and the final game of the night between This is Plough We Do It and Cott Lane Colts ended in a 2-2 draw.
Finally, in Division 5, Hickorys Allstars outplayed The Unbelievable Lads Fc, with a decisive 6-2 victory. Glyfi as Charged were victorious as they ran out 3-2 winners over We Don't Give a Flying Duck FC. Still Trying FC came away with a 2-1 win when they faced Let the Game McGinn and therefore have have shown what they can do for the season ahead.
With the season just beginning, fans can look forward to more exciting matches, stunning goals, and stellar performances in the coming weeks. The first week has set a high standard, and the teams will be eager to maintain or outdo their performances. As the action unfolds, Stourbridge Monday promises a thrilling season of football.
The league is now off for the Christmas break until Monday 8th January 2024. We would like to wish all teams a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year and we look forward to welcoming you all back in 2024.
