The Stourbridge Sunday 6-a-side league returned for another week in the blistering sun, with perfect weather for a night of football. This included some excellently contested games.
It was very disappointing that a number of teams were unable to fulfil their fixtures, two teams went down with a Covid outbreak which couldn’t be avoided, and waiting on one response from another team to ensure they are back for the next week. It is paramount that all teams are present for each and every fixture and if not try their hardest to contact the area manager in a sufficient amount of time in order for the league to run smoothly and effectively each week.
Premier Division-
The first Premier Division game began with a ‘Pring Ding FC’ winning performance which proved too much for ‘Magni Faico’ this time around. The final score resulted in a 7-1 win for ‘Pring Ding FC’ this concluded an epic performance for Mike Andrews (scoring 4 goals) and Lewis Hill (scoring 3 goals). This ties Mike Andrews at the top of the goal scorers’ chart with Ben Sanogo of ‘Dusty Yutes’ with 6 goals and there are still 8 games remaining.
‘Sexy Football’ also played against ‘AFC Audnam’ which saw both teams fight tooth and nail for the win and in great spirit, because of this ‘Sexy Football’ are now 3rd in the league and play ‘Dusty Yutes’ next week.
The next game on the Premier Division was a battle between ‘Dusty Yutes’ and ‘I Like That’ this ended with a convincing 5-1 win for ‘Dusty Yutes’. There was a brace and MVP performance from top joint goals scorer Ben Sanogo and a hattrick from Jordon Kondo that proved too much for ‘I Like That'. This leaves ‘Dusty Yutes’ top of the league level on points with ‘Pring Ding FC’ with a better goal difference by 4.
Division 1-
A strange night for Division 1 with all 3 games being 5-0 wins, however, this did not deter the teams from putting in good performances from their replacement teams with a thank you to them for stepping in to play on a hot day also. The first game included a good team performance from all players involved. At this early stage of the season it results in ‘Moves Like Agger’ 2 points clear at the top following the first game of the night ‘The Beasts Barmy Army’ consisted of a well-constructed team performance with an MVP performance from Ethan Williams. ‘AFC Audnam’ also put in a similar well put together performance and an MVP performance from Harry Shaw.
Team of the week- The team of the week was displayed by ‘Dusty Yutes’ in their great performance to keep on pushing for the first-place position ahead of ‘Pring Ding FC’ it should be an exciting game when they play soon.
All teams and team captains should note that it is a 7 days’ notice period for cancellation, which is vital for the league to run smoothly and ensure that everyone can enjoy competitive football. We look forward to welcoming you ALL back on Sunday 25th July at the Stourbridge RFC Leisure Leagues.
