It was a good evening's football overall in the Cannock Wednesday 6 a side league this week, with all teams in attendance for their matches as scheduled across the five divisions, the only exception being Pique Blinders who had given 7 days notice and are due to return to action on Wednesday 8th February.
Premier Division leaders Exeter Gently all but sealed the title for themselves barring disaster as they romped to a 7-3 victory over Ideal FC who find themselves very much in a relegation battle after their title exploits last season. Fortunately for them Mable's Spartans suffered a 3-2 defeat to bottom team Cat Zouma, whilst Banglasesh had a 5-0 loss due to a late cancellation, meaning it will be two from four who drop down at the end of this campaign. Phil My Teet moved up to third and above this weeks opponents Athletic Bilswan who they put to the sword 6-2.
Division One leaders Nutmeg City showed no mercy on new side Unathletico Madrid as they routed the young side 8-1 to keep their perfect record intact. Belt Road remain in second place after a 3-1 victory against Traff FC, a three point cushion with two games to play may not be enough to secure promotion though as they face top next week and third placed Newstead in the final game of the season in what could be a promotion decider, the third placed team comfortable 4-0 winners this week against Limes. Shameless 6 confirmed safety for themselves after they were 3-1 winners against Winding Wheel who remain two points outside the relegation spots.
Division Two leaders Donk II had promotion confirmed this week after a 5-0 walkover due to Pique giving 7 days notice. Second place is all but confirmed too as Double Pogba and Coke were narrow 2-1 winners against Limes FC 2, meaning their substantial goal difference to that of third placed Baldeaux confirms their place in Division One next season, the third placed team incidentally suffering a 3-1 reverse to the useful looking Champagne Super Rovers. A last minute equaliser for Fountain in a high tempo game against Demba 9 Ba saw the two share a point apiece in a game that finished 1-1.
The top three in Division Three keep battling it out for promotion as they all remain separated by a solitary point. Leaders Strongbow Unathletic were 7-2 victors over bottom side KFC Wimbledon, whilst HStikkytokky ran out 6-3 winners over 6Men1Cup, and third placed Shady FC were 4-3 victors against Wyld Stallyns as the promotion race looks to be going to the final week. Ball of Duty won an entertaining encounter against Cannock Town United by 4 goals to 3 to complete the division's action.
OB City sealed their promotion from Division Four this week after they were 5-0 winners over Newolvabora, whilst second place is all to play for with No Name moving back into the promotion spots with a 1-0 win against Fiveways, whilst Haven't Got One lost a 12 goal thriller against Queens Park Strangers 7-5. Cross Bar-celona move up to fourth place but will not be troubling the promotion candidates this time round, although an 8-0 win over Deportivo La Cannock was an impressive result.
We thank all teams for their continued reliability and commitment towards the league and wish all good luck ahead of the penultimate round of matches with Cannock's premier small sided football providers.
