So pleased to have launched the new Wednesday night 6 a side season in Axminster this week. With an improved format of two divisions all teams will have a competitive, shorter season with something to play for throughout.
Week 1 saw current champions Farmers Weekly undone by NYC FC in a cracking game that ended 6 - 4. A hattrick for Gavin Herrod puts him at the top of the goal scoring chart but his team left pointless as two goals from Ross Broom, matched by 2 from Rob Tucker ensured that NYC got their season off to the best possible start with 2 points and top spot in the premier league. Right up there with them are 2 Goals 1 Cup who came away from their season opener with Uplyme & Sinker 3 - 2 winners, Mike Ditchfield and Chris Wellman with goals for Uplyme but Josh, Giles and Harry Lawrence all netted to give 2 Goals the points. Portsmuff and A.I.FC showed what a competitive division this is going to be, battling out a hard fought 1 - 1 draw on the opening night. Tyler Nickolson on target for A.I FC while Mark Pearse netted for Portsmuff.
The all new Division One launched with 3 great games, A Cider 6 kicked off with a tight 1 - 0 win over Winsham Utd, Gary Larcombe with the decisive goal. The Roys had a good solid 3 - 0 win against Nice To Michu, James Gould, Richard Hurford and Mike Gould all on target to give their side the early win. Lastly we saw a brilliant performance from Vikings FC who put 6 past LR Dons to go top of the table. Dave Chandle bagged 2 and Chris Goodhew and skipper Callum Farquhar both got one with Matt Rowe and Eathan Matthews hitting back for LR Dons but it wasn't enough, Vikings wthe winners here 6 - 2.
Thank you to all the players for embracing the new set up, i'm confident it will prove to be much better for everyone as the season develops. Cheers to Lance and the crew on the ground for running the night, here's to a great season guys. Week Two is on the way !
