In another night of tense action in the Leisure Leagues Calne Tuesday six a side from Beversbrook Sports Facility we are still no closer to finding out who will be this seasons champions after Fitness and Dads both won again. However, for the Rushes it was a disappointing night as they slipped back. They, along with TMT, Netsix and Chill and Chicken Tikka Mo Salah are not out of the running just yet but they will need results to go their way.
In game 1 of the night TMT went up against The Rushes. Given what was at stake in the game it is perhaps unsurprising that the players were fired up. TMT did a brilliant job of containing The Rushes attacking threat. On the counter they were devastating with their pace. The 3-1 win sees TMT leapfrog The Rushes into third place and considering they only joined the season in week 3 one can only wonder what position they would have been in if they had joined the league at the start of the season.
In the other early fixture Fitness Box ensures they remained in prime position to claim the trophy with an impressive 3-0 win against Netsix and Chill. The win ensures that not only do they stay level with Dads Dream Team but crucially, they have a far superior goal difference. With the league as tight as it is this could prove decisive.
In the first of the late kick offs Chicken Tikka Mo Salah put manners on HOLO FC with a 7-0 win (although Chicken claimed it was 9). The goals were shared among the team with only captain Jordan failing to get on the score sheet. The small crumb of comfort Holo can take from the night is that they are now guaranteed to go into the January prize draw as the winners of the Wooden Spoon.
Finally it was left to RichTea to once again come up short in an incredibly close game. The perennial nearly men gave Dads a run for their money but unfortunately could not put the ball in the back of the net. They were guilty of overplaying in the final third and trying to score the perfect goal. Dads on the other hand were ruthlessly efficiently with their chances. They seem determined to give it their all to secure the trophy now that they are within sight of the finish line.
With just three weeks to go we are seeking new teams to join the league. If you would like to join then you can sign your team up online by following the link at the end of the page.
