It’s as you were in the Leisure Leagues Calne Tuesday six a side from Beversbrook Sports Facility as the top four teams all won their matches to leave the league table with a familiar look to it as we move into the remaining two weeks of the season.
In the first of the early kick offs The Rushes took on Holo FC. Holo are without a win all season and so we’re not expecting much from the game. However, they gave a really good account of themselves and for a long time were in the game. It was only in the final minutes that they added a second to finish the job and ensure that they retain a fighting chance of winning the title.
In the other game Dads Dream Team Reborn and Netsix and Chill played out a thoroughly entertaining game that had 8 goals in total. Dads though were in control of the game from early on with Captain Jamie staring with some calm and collected finishing to put the game out of reach of their opponents. The defeat for Netsix means they are now out of the race for the title. However, for Dads it keeps them well in the running in what is increasingly looking like a two horse race.
Dads rivals, and favourites for the title, Fitness Box had to come through a tricky encounter against Chicken Tikka. Fitness dominated possession in the first half but couldn’t find a way through. Byron, standing in in goal, was determined to impress on his debut and did just that with a string of world class saves. Eventually though you felt the breakthrough would come and it did after a quick Fitness break from a Chicken corner.
In the second half though Chicken struck back almost immediately. Louis played a wonderful ball almost the full length of the pitch to completely bypass Fitness’ high press. One on one with the keeper Sam had all the time in the world to pick his spot before sliding the ball home. With time running out a powerful Fitness shot was well saved but the rebound fell kindly for the boys in yellow who had two men queuing up to slot the ball home.
Similarly on the other pitch TMT were coming through their own tricky encounter as once again Rich Tea were on the wrong end of another close match up. 6 times this season they have lost by 1 goal and one has to wonder where they would be in the league if they had had the run of the green more regularly. For TMT the win keeps them in touching distance of winning the title. They will need to win their remaining two games with the first being a tricky encounter against Dads and then Netsix on the final day of the season. They will have to also hope that Fitness slip up which may come next week when they face The Rushes.
With just two weeks left in the season we are actively looking for new teams to join one of the best leagues in North Wiltshire.
