In what was probably the most important night so far in the Leisure Leagues Calne Tuesday six a side from Beversbrook Sports Facility as the top two went head to head. However, the game of the night was a thrilling 5-5 draw between Dads Dream Team Reborn and FC Calne Veterans.
The first game of the night saw The Rushes get back to winning ways with a comfortable 5-1 win against Holo. James Weston stepped up with a hat trick while Dean and Mike netted a goal each. With three games to go The Rushes still have a slip chance of winning the title but might instead have to settle for a runners up spot if they can overcome TMT.
Game 2 was comfortably the game of the night. It was a ten goal thriller that eventually ended 5-5 but that only tells part of the story. By half time Dads had stormed into a 4-0 lead and believed they had the game won. Calne came back in the second half to draw level. Dads struck again and once again believed they had secured the points. However, with virtually the last kick of the game. Calne Vets took an indirect free kick and they decided to throw caution to the wind by shooting on goal. The ball struck Dads keeper on the way in. VAR was called in to resolve the issue of whether the free kick had been taken in a direct manner. It was eventually decided that because the ball was deflected into the net by the goalkeeper the goal should stand. Not a popular decision but one that could have repercussions for teams moving forward.
In game 3 RichTeaWellens continued their good run of form with a 3-0 win over Netsix and Chill. Goals came from Sam, Ollie and Jacob and ensured that the team stay 4th in the table bit even they might consider themselves to have a chance to finish in the runners up spot given that they are only one win behind the two teams in joint second.
In the final game of the night Fitness Box took on the fiercest rivals for the title TMT. At the start of the season many tipped TMT to go all the way but now it looks like they will have to wait for next year. This is because Fitness Box beat them 3-1 in this game to move 3 points clear. Goals came from Rory, Eddie and Davin. Despite some early slip ups at the start of the season Fitness have showed some remarkable consistency in the second half of the season and now looked nailed on to finish as league champions once again.
