Fitness drop the ball in Leisure Leagues six a side

On a wet and windy night in the Calne Tuesday six a side from Beversbrook Sports Facility some teams thrived in the difficult conditions while others struggled. The result was that we witness some shock upsets that could have a huge impact on the detonation of this seasons trophy. While TMT and The Rushes continue to look strong Fitness Box floundered under pressure from the rapidly improving Calne Vets. At the other end of the table it was another disappointing night for Dads Dream Team Reborn as they slumped to their third defeat in a row.

The first game of the night saw TMT continue to impress with a dominant performance against Holo FC. The 5-0 victory in many way didn’t do justice to the quality of football on show from the boys in red.  They have come back in the new season with a fire in the belly and a determination to sustain a season long challenge for the title. They have recorded their third win in a row and with an impressive goals per game ratio to boot it certainly seems like they will be difficult to stop this season. Holo, to their credit, gave it their best effort but unfortunately were just not good enough on the night.

In the other early kick off, a fiery game between RichTeaWellens and Dads Dream Team took place. Both have struggled this season and went into the game on the back of two defeats from their first two games. Consequently both desperately needed to get a win to kick start their season. With five minutes remaining the scores were level and that’s when tensions boiled over. The event changed the game. With both sides down to five men RichTea suddenly had the edge and they used it to their advantage. By the end of the game RichTea emerged victorious to get their season back on track while for Dads it was another night of disappointment.

The next game saw Netsix and Chill take on The Rushes. Both teams were fired up for the game. For Netsix the win would put them back among the elite of the league while for The Rushes the game represented the opportunity to stay on the coattails of TMT. The game was an excellent one for the spectators with both teams going all out for the win. The Rushes used their physicality to try and dominate possession while Netsix tried to move the ball quickly from side to side to try and get behind the Rushes solid defensive line. In the end it was The Rushes who came out on top to maintain their 100% record. After three games they have emerged as TMT’s closest challengers.

In the final game of the night, reigning champions Fitness Box, with a depleted squad, took on FC Calne Veterans who have improved rapidly in recent weeks since joining the league. For the team who started the season as favourites it was a difficult night. Defensive errors from Fitness Box and excellent counter attacking football from Calne Vets allowed them to snatch an unlikely victory. It was a tense game as Fitness battled to get back into the game. However, try as they might they could not get the job done. With TMT and The Rushes looking side strong the loss was a huge blow to Fitness Box’s chances of retaining the title. However, for the Vets it’s a huge statement of intent. A few more victories like that and people will have to start thinking about the their chances of winning the league too.
