Netsix and Chill take to the top in Beversbrook six a side
The Leisure Leagues Calne Tuesday six a side from Beversbrook Sports Facility is fast turning into one of the most open leagues around as last night proved. Teams that look set to dominate the league were beaten, while teams at the other end refused to lie down and be beaten. What is clear then is that teams can expect no easy games when they arrive for the start of their match.
The first game of the night saw controversial league leaders Fitness Box FC take on Netsix and Chill. Both teams went into the game unbeaten and level on points so it was always going to be a close game and that is exactly how it turned out. Fitness Box looked very comfortable going forward but they were circumspect at the back. Twice Netsix hit the post only for the ball to rebound harmlessly away. Nevertheless it was Fitness who found the opening breakthrough after a solo run through the heart of the defence and a well placed finish into the bottom corner. Netsix's equaliser was fortuitous in the extreme. Fitness switched off after a strong penalty claim was turned down. While this was happening Netsix received a throw-in just outside the box. The cross came in and was deflected off of a defenders shin while the keeper was looking the other way. The second was even more unfortunate for Fitness. A new member of the team slid across the box to block a shot which resulted in a penalty for Netsix which they calmly dispatched. Despite throwing everything at Netsix's goal Fitness were unable to find a way back into the game. As a result Netsix move to the top of the table while Fitness drop back to fourth.
In the other early game new team TMT went up against The Rushes which represented a good barometer of how well TMT could expect to do this season. Similarly to the previous game it was a close affair with both teams having plenty of chances. The Rushes made excellent use of the counter and their lone striker did well to hold up the ball. On the other hand TMT were happy to pass the ball around patiently build their attacks from the back. For a long time it looked like these two styles would cancel each other out. However, in the dying moments TMT broke forward, playing a cute give and go to get down the right flank before firing a shot across goal and into the bottom corner. This game represented an impressive debut for the new side. They might be too far back to win this season but they could very well have a baring on where the title does end up.
The late kick offs had less of the drama of the early games but were no less entertaining. Dads Dream Team Reborn managed to secure a win against strugglers RichTeaWellens but that only tells half the story. For long periods Dads had to sustain massive pressure as RichTea twice hit the post and bar. The boys in blue had to suffer a fourth straight defeat but they are more than capable of turning this slump around. They just need a bit of luck to go their way. On the other hand Dads have seen themselves propelled to the head of the table only one goal behind Netsix.
In the other late game Chicken Tikka Mo Salah returned to form with a thumping victory over Holo FC. Their attacking threat came from all angles with even captain Jordan Girling getting on the score sheet but Sam and Jamie Barry looked a formidable combination and they combined on multiple occasions to rip Holo's defence apart. The only consolation for the light blues was that they managed to snatch a late goal to restore some pride. The win puts them just one point off the top and very much in the hunt as we move towards game week 5.
