It was another excellent night of football this past Tuesday in the Leisure Leagues Calne six a side from Beversbrook Sports Facility. The top three won again to ensure that they are still separated by just a single point with the Rushes leading the pack. Behind them is an incredibly tight midfield battle while Holo continue to pull up the rear.
In the opening games of the night, two of the seasons big three were in action as TMT took on Dads Dream Team Reborn and Fitness Box played RichTeaWellens. The first game was incredibly close, even though Dads were missing several key players including their captain Jamie. TMT, who have been on a bad run of late, desperately needed the win to stay in the title race. They got the first goal after a mix up at the back by Dads. This helped settle the nerves for TMT who then started to play the sort of football we have become accustomed to from them. They then added a second after an excellent team move. In the second half Dads responded and began pulling the pressure on in an effort to find an equaliser. It was a nervy final few moments for TMT but they held on to grab the points.
Fitness Box’s passage past RichTea was much smoother as they ran out 4-2 winners. RichTea have been on a great run of late and so went into this game confident of causing an upset. However, these hopes were soon dashed when Fitness Box took an early lead. They continued to impress and added two more to be home and dry by half time. In the second half Fitness took their foot of the gas a little which allowed RichTeaWellens to pull one back. With RichTea then grabbed another to set up an interesting finale to the match. While pushing forward though, RichTea left themselves exposed at the back which allowed Fitness to break away and add a fourth to seal the win and keep alive their resurgence.
In the nights late games the two veteran teams faced off against one another while in the other match Holo took on Netsix and Chill. Calne Vets have been flying in recent weeks a and had suddenly started to consider themselves title contenders. However, they were brought crashing back down to earth by the Rushes who were excellent for the full 30 minutes. They battered FC Calne in every department and were well deserved 5-0 winners. Everyone keeps wondering if and when the Rushes are going to slip up but there was no sign of it in this game. And if they keep playing like this then we might very well be looking at this seasons Leisure Leagues Champions.
On the other pitch it was an opportunity for Netsix to make amends for what has so far proven to be a pretty disastrous season. Netsix’s only win up until this point had come on the opening day of the season in the reverse fixture against Holo so it was vital that they won again to try and get some confidence heading into the second half. The game was close and at 1-1 it looked like Netsix might struggle to secure the win but in the end they had just a bit too much for Holo to hold on. The game finished 3-1 meaning Netsix move level with Dads. They are still at the wrong end of the table but aren’t completely out of it given how tight the league is in the midfield and at the top. Anyone can beat anyone in this league which is why it’s one of the best around!
