The night started to fanfare, with Maradona Kebab being presented with the brand new Premier League trophy ahead of play! The new trophy, finished in gold and standing an incredible 2 foot high was lifted by captain Danny Wilson ahead of last nights game.
There was also celebration for Division One Winners FC Club De Futbol AFC who lifted the division one winners trophy and both teams have their name etched into Leisure Leagues Beverley folklore forever more.
The new custodians of the Premier League trophy have wasted no time in getting their title defence underway, and following a 7-0 win last week they set a new record victory with a punishing 17-0 victory over Expected Toulouse. Their newly promoted opponents were missing a couple of key players which the champions ruthlessly exploited, reaching double figures before half time and continuing the assault in the second half with four players grabbing hattricks and Danny Finch helping himself to five.
The other newly promoted team - Division One Winners FC Club de Futbol AFC - also had to face a previous champion in Beverley La Coruna who are keen to stay in touch and mount a challenge on Maradona Kebab. La Coruna made it two wins out of two with a 5-0 win but the game was overshadowed by a potentially serious looking knee injury to Club de Futbol captain Joe Kenny. We wish Joe a speedy recovery.
The final game in the Premier League saw a resurgent Academy romp home 7-0 against Murder on Zidane's Floor, with 5 different scorers in a highly impressive performance leaving both teams with one win and one loss in the opening two games.
Division One looks like having a wide open promotion race this season, with Little Boys Clubs being the only side left with a 100% record after just two games. Following an opening night win, they were made to work hard against Crystal Phallus but ultimately got the job done with a 4-2 win.
Elsewhere, Sal's U12's and Nutty Nutters managed to grab their first wins of the season following opening day defeats, both recording 3-0 victories over Inter Peroni and Viking Rangers respectively to leave all four teams on 2 points following a win and a loss each in the opening two games.
Its shaping up to be another great season.
