As the floodlights illuminated the football field under the wet Lichfield sky, Week 13 of the Burntwood Sunday Football League served up a thrilling spectacle of sportsmanship and competition across two divisions - the Premier League and Division 1.
In the Premier League division, Al-Ettifaq in Ell Ref demonstrated outstanding performance by leading a clean sweep of 3-0 against Sporting Stonnall. Keeping up their press on the top spots. Maintaining the same momentum, Top Notch also registered a formidable 3-0 win against Peek Eboue.
However, it was Sunday Football who stole the limelight by outscoring Kebab And Beer FC in an adrenaline-pumping match that ended 5-3. 8 goals is by far the best offering of the evening which earns it a deserved Match of the Day award. The first of many for Sunday Football as they cruise unbeaten towards the Championship! Meanwhile, in a nail-biting face-off, Barz Click narrowly clinched a victory with a scoreboard of 2-1 against Bottom Bunch FC. Damping their hopes of getting off the bottom haha!
Shifting focus to the Division 1 matches, The Ringers trounced Obese City with a 4-1 scoreline. Onwards and upwards for these top dogs it would seem… Allstars United, displaying their skills, secured a 2-0 victory over Chase FC. The Warriors didn’t disappoint their fans either, winning 2-0 against Hakuna Juan Mata. It’s becoming desperate times for the Hakuna bunch! Finally, D.T.F.C bested Ladzio FC in a 3-0 showdown. Keeping up their push for second place whilst Allstars almost parallel them!
As the whistle blew to mark the end of Week 13, the Burntwood Sunday League left fans and players eagerly anticipating the next round of fixtures. If this week was anything to go by, the remaining weeks hold promising action and intense competition across divisions.
The next 2 weeks of games will be held on the astro turf at Shelfield Ormiston Academy and league games will go ahead as normal/scheduled. I have spoken to most captains already about this. Keep your eyes peeled for any missed calls from me. Looking forward to seeing you there whilst our home astro at the leisure centre undergoes some fabulous upgrades!
We are still on the hunt for new teams and players for our league. Get in touch below if you want a piece of the action!
See you all in Shelfield!
Let’s hope for some sunshine for it
