The Solent and University of Southampton Thursday 6-a-side league at Cantell School

In the opening round of matches, ‘Mayflower FC Bs’ faced off against ‘Stem K Dons’ in what was expected to be a fairly equitable encounter, while ‘Saka Potatoes’ took on ‘Black Swans’.  The former game got off to a lively start with three goals in ten minutes but soon fizzled out, both teams resigned to not scoring again, leaving the scoreline 2:1 to ‘Mayflower FC Bs’.  ‘Black Swans’ won 3:0.  Secondly, ‘ 5 in the Pink’, easily the most reliable team in the league, maintained the status quo with yet another demolition job – this week’s victims ‘Lads on Toure’ having little to shout about in their 7:1 defeat.  

Meanwhile, ‘Culture FC’ beat a tired ‘Mayflower FC As’ team, having only been able to field enough players for one set of players to play in consecutive matches.  ‘I Kante Fit My Willian’ continued their purple patch with a 9:1 drubbing of ‘Gylfi Pleasures’.  In the last set of matches, ‘Bussoc’ and ‘Rodallega Bombs’ played out an entertaining 2:2 draw, both keepers producing a fine reel of saves – the burden of responsibility should lie on the amount of chances spurned, particularly from the wasteful ‘Rodallega Bombs’.  ‘OE 6s’ and ‘AFC Shirley’ both won 2:1 against ‘Stannmorre Stores’ and ‘Almastone FC’ respectively.
