The Big Wangers 3-3
Backup Players
Last season’s 3rd and 4th placed teams
produced a thriller on the opening day of the Leisure Leagues Premier division.
Marshalled by captain fantastic Jordan Breward, Backup Players launched to a
seemingly unassailable three goal lead. In true Wangers fashion the Blues
failed to give in however, with two late goals earning them a unlikely point. A
contender for game of the season already.

Salad Dodgers 1-0
Netsix and Chill
In complete contrast to the first game, this first clash
between the Dodgers and Netsix proved tight and cagey. With both teams looking
to avoid the drop this season there was little to pick between the two sides.
Dodgers created more of the chances, with a goal from Matt Jeffs proving the
difference.

Paris Ganja Man 1-0
The Mighty Morphin Flower Arrangers
The Mighty Morphins could not have picked a tougher opening
Leisure Leagues game then against defending champions Paris Ganja Man, but the
flowers put up an excellent fight in defeat. Flowers captain Jordan Tinley was
excellent in defence, and could be looking at a player of the season award with
performances like he produced on Sunday. Paris have extended their winning run
to 11 games now, who can stop them?

Adam Johnsons 1-3
Brexteam
Adam Johnsons missed an excellent chance to record a first
victory of their Leisure Leagues careers on Sunday, as they bowed down to one
of our new sides, Brexteam. Despite showing flashes of technical brilliance,
there was too much arguing amongst the Johnsons, who clearly missed the
leadership of their captain. Rafael Syzmczak controlled the game for Brexteam,
who will be delighted with an opening day win. Can the Johnsons bounce back
next week?

Balotellitubbies 3 –
1 Os Martelos
Balotellitubbies launched their assault on Division One
promotion with a convincing win over another of our new sides Os Martelos. The
Wizard of Os’s (I’m quite happy with that nickname) paid the price for playing
a very open style of football, and were in the end punished on the counter
attack.

Ivory Toast 2-2
Beercelona
Title favourites Beercelona had to come away from Charnwood
College with just a point after being frustrated by Ivory Toast. Despite
conceding an early goal, Ivory Toast soon equalised with a penalty, and just
about held their own for the rest of the game despite showing signs of fatigue
near the end. Jamie Ottewell put in his best performance in a white shirt so
far for Beercelona.
