All the Leisure League Premier Division teams were eager to
start their campaigns for the new season on Sunday, and the football they
produced did not disappoint.
First onto the Charnwood College 3G pitch were the seasoned
professionals, Salad Dodgers, against their younger opponents,
Balotellitubbies.
Salad Dodgers used their direct style of football to great effect by bagging a goal in the first five minutes, courtesy of star striker Matt Jeffs.
Despite the Balotellitubbies keeper producing an early save
of the season contender, Salad Dodgers soon romped away with the match, with
Matt Jeffs adding four more goals to his tally in a 7-2 win.
Next on where The Big Wangers and Backup Players FC. In a
much more competitive encounter The Big Wangers showed enough quality to edge
out their talented opponents 4-2. Despite being part of the losing team, Backup
Players captain Jordan Breward led by example, scoring both of his sides goals.
The final match of the day saw Pingfisher and Catfeesh face
off. Fans of defensive football where given a treat, with Pingfisher managing
to hold out for a 0-0 draw despite facing an onslaught from Catfeesh.
Title favourites, Paris Ganja Man, were fortunate
beneficiaries of a walkover, and received an automatic 5-0 win.
