It’s as you were in the Leisure Leagues Royal Wootton Bassett Monday six a side from Gerard Buxton Sports Ground as the top three teams all recorded impressive wins. The result means that going into the final week of the season only two points separate the three with it all still to play for.
Both Baileys Boys and Exeter Gently were able to record comfortable wins and bag plenty of goals against the Unplayable’s and Sloblins respectfully. Unplayable’s managed to stay in the game briefly but eventually succumbed to the onslaught they were facing. They were trailing some new players and once they get bedded in to the team and up to speed with six a side then they could be the difference Unplayable’s need. Exeter had to make the most of the opportunity of playing the bottom side to try and get closer to Baileys impressive goal difference.
In contrast Who Ate All Depays had a tough fixture against Athletic Bilbao Baggins. They battled through even when sustaining lots of pressure from Athletics attacking threat. On the break Craig Maddox was back to his devastating best and this ultimately proved the difference. Who Ate All Depays have done brilliantly to close the gap to the top two in the second half but will unfortunately not be able to win the trophy unless something crazy happens in the final games of the season. However, they have a great chance of finishing second in a winners take all match with Exeter Gently next week.
In the Floyd derby between Bass Rugby and the Underdogs there was plenty of action on and off the football with the brothers nearly having a domestic on the pitch. Brotherly love was left to one side as both teams went all out for the bragging rights in the house. Eventually it was Bass and Iwan that would take the plaudits after securing a 3-0 win. In many ways this game was Bass back to their best as they demonstrated both pace and power to get in behind The Underdogs back line time after time. Most importantly the win means that it is almost impossible for The Underdogs to finish above Bass now and so Bass will claims bragging rights for this season at least.
The final two games of the night were both incredibly tight games with only one goal separating the two sides. FC Guava came out on top to beat The Plough 2-1 while Gangsters Allardyce continued their good run of form with a narrow victory against 2 Goals 1 Cup. The win for Guava means they have a good chance of leap frogging the Underdogs on the final night of the season while Gangsters ensured they would finish in 4th spot in the table. However, Gangsters will be looking to next season and hoping they can take their form from the second half of this season into the next campaign. If they can they should be able to get much closer to Bailey’s Boys and co. at the top of the table.
