It was a night when the old guard returned to the party and made their prescience felt in the Leisure Leagues Royal Wootton Bassett Monday six a side as Gangsters Allardyce, buoyed by the return of their former talismanic captain, came up against new boys Muff United, now renamed Plough FC. Gangsters until now had failed to rediscover the form that saw them take last seasons title but this performance may just highlight that a new dawn is coming for the boys in green. With plenty of the season still to play, do not write them off just yet!
Similarly 2 Goals 1 Cup seem to have rediscovered some of their best form with their second comprehensive win in a row. Athletic Bilbao Baggins have so far been the surprise package this season with some excellent performances but they admitted after the game that this was not their best performance by a long way. They looked sluggish while 2 Goals were sharp. They have slipped back in recent weeks and will need to rediscover their best form of they are to keep up the pressure on those above them in the table.
In the games kicking off at 20:30 Bailey’s Boys secured another comfortablevictory, this time against Who Ate All Depays. Their goal difference is hugely impressive and in a season as close as this that could be vital come the seasons end.
At the other end of the table, meanwhile, FC Guava secured an impressive win against fellow strugglers Sloblins. The game was not one for the purists but shows the grit and determination of Zac’s men to get all the points.
The final games saw Exeter maintain their position at the top of the table with a win against the Underdogs, this despite a mounting injury list that is preventing some of their best players from taking to the football pitch. The other late kick off was perhaps the game of the night. The Unplayable’s came up against Bass Rugby and with target man Jake back pulling the strings, the Unplayable’s were exactly that - unplayable. This was a much needed victory for the boys in orange after a few difficult weeks but captain Justin was confident after the game, that his team was on the way back up.
As the league moves towards the half way point, teams are beginning to make their moves. There is still much to play for so check back next week to see how everyone gets on.
While the league is currently full you can still sign up online and join the waiting list for next season. If enough teams sign up we can extend to two divisions with promotion and relegation between the two leagues.
