It was another night of ups and downs on Monday in the Leisure Leagues Royal Wootton Bassett six a side from Gerard Buxton Sports Ground. In what is proving to be one of the most competitive and compelling leagues around several teams once again upset the Apple cart by beating teams that they shouldn’t have. This has left a league where 1st down to 9th all have a chance of beating one another.
In the first game FC Guava received a points match victory which has seen to go above the Underdogs in their private battle at the foot of the table.
Game 2 saw Pique Blinders once again show what they are capable of with a stunning performance as they beat The Underdogs 9-0. Sean Hall was the man of the night with four goals while Jamie Hall also chipped in with a hat-trick. Since joining the league they have climbed the league rapidly and now sit 4th only four points off the top of the table.
Next up was the in form Athletic Bilbo Baggins against the up and down Unplayable’s. This week it was Unplayable’s week to turn up and they put manners on Athletic as a result. The final score was 2-0 with both goals coming from Barry Winslow. The result puts a huge dent in Athletic’s title aspirations while for the Unplayable’s it gets them moving once again in the right direction.
Next up was a hotly contested game between Gangsters Allardyce and 2 Goals 1 Cup. The game was a full on competitive football match as 2 Goals looked to get amongst the army lads and disrupt their free flowing football. However, it wasn’t enough and in the end Gangsters ran out comfortable 5-1 winners. Callum took the plaudits by scoring twice while Kyle also got on the scoresheet. The guys still sit second and will need a slip up from Exeter above them in order to claim the title they lost last season.
In game four of the night Who Ate All Depays miserable run continued as they slipped to another crushing defeat. This time it was Alexandre LakofKet who put manners on Jason and his men. They used their superior fitness levels to put run Depays and a Garrick from Jack John meant that in the end it was comfortable for LakofKet. The win means they are now third in the table within one win of Gangsters above them.
In the final game of the night Exeter Gently took on the rising stars Norfolk N’Chance. It was an incredibly close game and Norfolk will be wondering quite how they didn’t get anything from the game. The reason for this was pure and simple. Ben in goal was simply unbeatable on the night. He stepped up when his team needed him and kept them in the game. Then Exeter did what they do best and hit teams on the counter. Bens performance was so phenomenal that he has been nominated to attend trials for the England six a side squad. Everyone at Leisure Leagues Swindon wishes him the best of luck!
