The Leisure Leagues Swindon Monday six a side from the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground had absolutely everything as every team went all out for victory.
At the start and end of the night the top two teams in the league continued their impressive starts with both putting 4 goals past their opponents. However, while Bailey's victory against Athletic was fairly comfortable the same could not be said for Exeter. Already without key players, they were devestated to lose Ryan Wallace to a suspected knee ligament injury. Everyone at Leisure Leagues wishes him a speedy recovery.
With only five minutes remaining the scores were still 1-1 and Unplayables were beginning to dream of a shock result. At this point though their dreams were shattered with a quick fire brace from captain Pete Leppan helping the lads in white to a more comfortable looking 4-1 scoreline.
In the other early kick off Muff United made their debut in the league after replacing Hardley Athletic who were forced to leave the league with too many injuries to their key players. They took on 5 man 2 Goals 1 Cup. 2 Goals have disappointed somewhat this season but with their backs against the wall they showed some of their old class to put manners on the new boys. If Muff United were under any illusions about the seriousness of this league then those illusions have been shattered. No doubt they will come back stronger next week.
In the 2nd round of games both Who Ate All Depays and Gangsters were able to record comfortable and professional victories against their opponents keeping clean sheets in the process. Both teams are chasing the top two and these wins keeps their chances of challenging for the title alive.
The final game of the night saw fellow strugglers FC Guava and the Underdogs go up against one another. The game was easily the game of the night with both sides going all out for the win and in the process entertaining the crowds watching. Both teams will think they should have won but in reality the draw was a fair result.
As we move towards the half way point of the season teams will begin to take a more and more interested look at the table.
Meanwhile new and prospective teams should be thinking about how they can get involved in the best six a side league in Swindon.
Join the waiting list now to take advantage of the league expanding next season to two divisions. There is limited space in the league so get your team signed up now to avoid disappointment.
