Leisure Leagues six a side ends with Gangsters as champions

It was a great night to end the season at the Leisure Leagues Swindon Monday Gerard Buxton six a side in Royal Wootton Bassett as Gangsters held on for a nervy win against bottom of the table Sloblins to claim their third consecutive league title. They had to work hard for the win as Sloblins let them know they were in a football match with some strong tackling and nearly hit Gangsters on the the counter with their keeper having to making some smart saves. At the other end Sloblins keeper was doing a fine job of ensuring that as the teams went into half time level. Silence watched on with belief that maybe, just maybe they could still snatch the title but in the end it wasn't to be. Gangsters found the breakthrough with a scrappy goal that all but ensured the title was theirs and they followed this up with a second later on to confirm the result.

Sloblins have made massive improvements in recent weeks and claim the wooden spoon prize. They have captured the hearts and minds of people who have watched for the way in which they continue to fight hard for each other even when 3,4 or 5 goals down. They will go into the prize draw with a chance to claim a prize for their efforts.

The game before saw Silence of the Lahms demonstrate why they were able to run Gangsters so close with a comprehensive victory over Expected Toulouse, who played their last game before leaving to go to university. They quickly found themselves 3 goals ahead and Ryan Baker making an appearance for Expected was uncharacteristically off target. He will hope that, when he turns out next week for Exeter Gently, he remembers to bring his shooting boots. Silence will go into the Prize Draw next month and will hope to win a prize before they depart for university in September. It was from amongst this group of lads that the MVP award was also claimed. George Staten has been a cornerstone of Silence's success and his goals kept Silence ahead of their rivals for much of the season. He claims to golden boot prize of a free kit and will also go into the Prize Draw next month.

The final award for the end of the season was for the goal of the season. This was won by Wirral Wubbish's Jack Twine. The goal came in a tight game for Wirral Wubbish against Silence of the Lahms. The ball was crossed in and Jack met the ball on the end he of the box. Rather than go for power, Jack placed the ball calmly, using the power on the ball to guide it into the net as it came off the post. The goal and the game was ultimately decisive as at themat point Silence were comfortably in the lead and this defeat gave Gangsters a chance that they would ultimately take.

Thank you everyone for making this an unbelievable season of six a side action. I look forward to seeing you all next time for the Leisure Leagues Swindon Monday six a side at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground.
