It was a dramatic night at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground with the event seemingly having it all, from entertaining football to controversial decisions and dramatic climaxes.
In the nights early kick offs Athletic Bilbao Baggins went up against FC Guava while Gangsters Allardyce took on Who Ate All Depays.
In the first game Athletic continued to show that they are an impressive unit with a comprehensive win over a team that was beginning to show signs of improvement in recent weeks. The result ensures that Athletic stay right in the hunt at the top of the table while FC Guava stay just above Sloblins at the bottom of the table.
The other 20:00 kick off was a stark contrast from the other game as both teams cancelled each other out. There were few clear cut chances for either side and when there was a sight of goal it was easily dealt with by two goal keepers in excellent form.
It was a similar theme with the next round of matches. The derby game between Bass Rugby and 2 Goals 1 Cup was incredibly close and looked to be heading for a draw until a late goal by Bass Rugby snatched the points from their fierce rivals. The other game was also a tight encounter until the a dislocated finger, sustained by Unplayables' goalkeeper while making a save, left them without a recognised goal keeper. This opened the flood gates and allowed Hardley Athletic to storm to a 4-1 victory.
The final games of the night saw a top of the table clash between Bailey's Boys and Exeter Gently and a bottom of the table match up between the Underdogs and Sloblins. Both games were decided by a single goal. In the game between the Underdogs and Sloblins the Underdogs were good going forward but left themselves open to the counter attack which the pace of Sloblins captain Harry Walduck was able to exploit ruthlessly. The top of the table clash was always going to be feisty and competitive. Both sides left nothing on the pitch in their attempt to grab victory. In the end Exeter managed to hold on for all the points after their keeper gave away a controversial penalty. However, with the floodlights going off early it is unclear whether Bailey's would have been able to get back into the game and so the result at the moment stands as provisional.
Thanks everyone another great night. See you next week.
