While both Exeter Gently and Bailey's Boys continued to extend both their impressive points tally and goal differences with comfortable and large wins over their opponents, the other teams in the league played out some highly entertaining and close games highlighting again why the Lesiure Leagues Royal Wootton Bassett Monday league is without a doubt the best six a side league in the Swindon area.
Bailey's Boys continued to put the pressure on the league leaders with an ruthless display of finishing against the Unplayable. Their attack was full of pace and they danced past players like they weren't even there. Their finishing was outstanding with power and accuracy combined to leave keeper Kevin Ritcher no hope of preventing them from racking up an impressive 8 goals for no reply.
Pete Leppan, captain of Exeter Gently, while happy with his teams performance, still believed it could and perhaps should have been more. They know that, despite a slender two point lead in the title race, they still lag behind Bailey's Boys on goal difference and, after seeing them put 8 past the Unplayable's, they were desperate to close the gap ahead of the crucial fixture return fixture later in the season which will most likely decide the destination of the Leisure Leagues trophy.
Of the four remaining games of the night, three were decided by just a single goal. The newly renamed Muff United, now known as Plough FC got their first win since joining the league with a 2-1 victory over FC Guava. Padget, so devastating at St Josephs showed that even on the bigger pitch at Gerard Buxton he can still perform to his best with a superlative strike to seal the win.
Meanwhile, Athletic Bilbo Baggins, after a disappointing run of results got back to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Who Ate All Depays. This game could have gone either way and with both teams evenly matched it was clear that the first team to score would walk away with the points. Dave Garroway, the man for big occassions, so dependable, so reliable came up with the goods with a calm finish from inside the box half way through the second half.
In the nights first game spectators were treated to a Floyd derby as brothers Iwan and Rhys went up against each other in the league. This game ebbed and flowed with both teams having periods of dominance but being unable to fully put the other team to bed. With the game at 1-1 and only moments left on the clock Rhys and the Underdogs snatched the win walking away with the bragging rights and the points.
That just left the game of the night between Gangsters Allardyce and 2 Goals 1 Cup. Last season these two teams were fighting for the title. This season they are languishing mid table. Callum Roberts looked sharp for Gangsters and it was clear that they had missed his presence in the heart of midfield for the last couple of weeks. Kyle Brentnall was also on fire in front of goal bagging himself a couple of goals and supplying a few assists as well for an outstanding man of the match performance.
2 Goals also had their own heros. Raisham looked back to his best with some solid work in the middle of the park to provide for his team mates with an excellent work rate and range of passing while Sam held the ball up well up top providing chances for his team mates to run onto. However, the key difference between the two sides was their physicality and at crucial moments 2 Goals could not compete in the 50:50s coming off second best and then before caught on the counter.
Overall, it was still a hugely entertaining game for the spectators and the boys should be proud of the show that they continue to put on. Without a doubt this is the BEST league in the Swindon area and the good news is that you can join in the fun!!!
