Who ate all the Guava in Leisure Leagues six a side?

With just over a month to go in the Leisure Leagues Royal Wootton Bassett Monday six a side from the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground every single team was still out on the 3G pitch giving their absolute all for their teams cause. We might have a clearer idea about where the trophy will be heading but there is still a lot to play for many teams in the league.

The first game of the night saw The Unplayable's face off against Gangsters Allardyce. For the first half it was a relatively close game and Unplayables were more than able to match Gangsters for physicality and commitment all over the park and were unlucky to only go in at the half time break 1 nil down. However, in the second half things started to go wrong for the boys in orange. First they lost a few to injuries and then fitness started to play a part as the army men turned on the after burners with two quick goals to take the game out of reach for Justin and his men.

Meanwhile in the other early kick off 2 Goals 1 Cup, fresh from their week off went up against Sloblins who currently sit bottom with just a single point to show for their efforts so far this season. To be fair to the guys they battled hard and for large periods of the game were ale to put pressure on 2 Goals. However, the quality of 2 Goals shone through in the end and some excellent finishing took the game beyond Harry's team. 2 Goals have the unenviable task of going up against Bailey's Boys next week while Sloblins have a tough game against The Plough.

In the second round of matches Bailey's Boys inherited a 5-0 win after Bass Rugby missed their game to attend a party (hope it was worth it lads!). On the other pitch The Plough continued their good form to secure a solid 3-0 win against the Underdogs. When Plough joined the league half way through the season they were near the bottom of the table. To climb up to 7th since then has shown that this is a team capable of big things in future seasons. The Underdogs sit just behind them courtesy of a worse goal difference but have a tough game next week against Gangsters.

The final round of games saw Exeter draw with Athletic Bilbao Baggins in a highly entertaining game. Admittedly the wind seems to have gone out of Exeter's sails after last weeks crushing defeat but that should take nothing away from the brilliant performance by Athletic. They competed all over the park and even at the end of the game were chasing back from advanced positions to prevent an Exeter counter attack that would have sealed the win.

On the other pitch the performance of the night came from Who Ate All Depays. Once again they showed great energy and commitment to the cause. At times they played some outstanding football and Dave Warbutton in particular was picked out for his outstanding contribution. Given the run that Who Ate All Depays have been on they are now only three points behind Exeter Gently who they play next week. If they win that game then they could have an outside chance of finishing runners up behind Bailey's Boys. Tune in next week to see if they manage to secure the win.

That concludes the nights six a side football from the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground. See you all next week.
