There were emotional scenes down at Havant and Waterlooville FC's Westleigh Park last night as our Monday night 6 a side season concluded. Cardiac Arrest once again proving to be the best side in the league as they retain their title with a 5 point gap to Puff Puff Pass who were deserved runners up. MK Dongs secured 3rd spot after an 8 - 4 win in the only league game played last night in the top flight. Last game of the season blues getting the better of a number of teams which is always a shame but I've got no doubt we will have the place bouncing again for the new season next week. The defeat for Pigeons means a return to Division One next season, along with Farlington X1. Ben Johnson once again takes home the golden boot for his 38 goals in another prolific season in front of goal. Well done Ben and all the Cardiac boys, great achievement to pick up back to back league wins.
Taking the places in the Prem will be Swan FC and Westy United, both of whom gain promotion following a brilliant run in. Swan are crowned as champions and deservedly so, ending 3 points clear while just a point separated Westy and Six Bells Vets in 3rd, both teams went all in for their final games but wins for both mean it's Westy who go up this time and Six Bells must try again next season. At the bottom we lose Lallana's and Peter File to Division Two, both had a great crack at the the division and i'm sure will look to bounce back in the new season. Toby Appleby ran riot on the final night, bagging 11 to take home the golden boot for the division. His final tally of 27 a massive factor in Westy getting promoted this season. Well done to him and to Westy, and massive congratulations to Swan on going up as champions, a brilliant season in Division One.
There was a fairytale end to the Division Two season this campaign as one of our original Sunday teams, Kye Rovers climbed to the top and won the title. The Kye Rovers story is a brilliant one, manager Paul Griffiths is such a character and always wears his heart on his sleeve. His team is named in memory of his little boy who i'm sure is in his thoughts every week on match nights. On Sunday's Kye Rovers pretty much lost every week but they never gave up and when the opportunity came up to join our Monday event they started again at the bottom of Div 2. Two seasons of hard graft and now Paul finds himself with a team of champions. These lads live and breath their Leisure League experience and we love having them in our league. Congratulations Paul and all the players, really happy for you and good luck in Division One. Runners up in Div Two were SonsDads who now bow out of the league and will be replaced, we thank them for their efforts and wish them well, Bottle Jobs ended 3rd with a solid 2 - 1 win on the final night. The Golden Boot for Division Two goes to Bailey Kerridge who had a great season in front of goal, netting 26 times to pip Lee Callagham to the award by just a single goal.
So there we have it, the season has ended and the Champaign corks have been swept up, I just want to say thank you to all our team captains for their efforts in getting their teams together week in week out, this league is in a great place, we have committed teams and very few issues so thank you for making it such fun to manage. I also want to take a moment to thank Mike, Nathan, Jack and Mark for the incredible job they all do on match nights. We have seen video of goals, interviews with players and just brilliant feedback which enables us to make the league the very best it can be you you guys.
This season the refs Most Valuable Player Award, given by the refs after each game has been one by a player that has been awarded MOTM no less than 8 times in 14 weeks of games, congratulations to Jordan Evans of Kye Rovers on winning it this season, I hear nothing but good stuff from our officials and the award is definitely well deserved.
Once again, thank you. Don't forget the new season kicks off next Monday, we will have a few new sides involved so look out for them and i'll be in touch with a few teams about the division they might play in, lets be ready and make the new season as brilliant as this one has been.
Cheers
Rob
