Great to have a nearly full line up of teams down at Westleigh Park last night for week 5 of our gripping season of 6 a side. We have a week off next week as it's the bank holiday weekend but will be back, raring to go on 5th September. August is always a tough month for teams so well done to all the captains for getting through it and keeping your sides active, hopefully as we go into the back end of this seriously hot summer it will become easier to keep your squads together, just remember to talk to us if you are struggling, we are here to help.
When we return to action we will have another new team kicking off their Leisure Leagues journey, i'll report on that separately but just to remind people without a team in the league that if you register in August you can do so for just £1 and join our waiting list. Once you get a place, your 1st match fee will be covered by us so its a great time to get involved ahead of the autumn rush. This league is in high demand so the sooner you register the sooner you can play.
So to last nights action and we saw yet another win for the merciless Cardiac Arrest who continued with their mission to retain their title with an 10 - 3 win over Rapid Decline, Ben Johnson doing Ben Johnson things by bagging another 6 goals. Puff Puff Pass won't go away though in the title race, they sit just 2 points behind the leaders as they look to go from bridesmaid to bride this season. Their 8 - 0 win last night against 3rd Placed Westy Utd coming thanks to 4 goals from Oli Page and it could be all eyes on the last game of the season when the top two meet, could that be a title decider ? far too soon to say but it seems like a 2 horse race unless Westy discover their inner Antonio Conte and close the gap... Blue Badge picked up a points win as Bumbaclart Bandits informed us on match day that they could no longer continue in the league and Not Quite Heskey played out an entertaining draw with league debutants Leigh Park Misfits who saw goals from Will Bamber and Jack Malone matched by 2 from Alex Beckett for the Heskeys, good game and a solid start for the new boys who due to their starting point have some work to do to stay in the top flight.
3 points separate the top 5 in Division One with some brilliantly entertaining matches with week, OAP's lead after getting the better of Smashers in an absolute classic that ended 7 - 5, Tom Wray on target 4 times for the leaders but fair play to Smashers who sit 3rd for playing their part, Harry Wareham and Craig Mansbridge both netting twice for the team that seem to feature in close games more often than not recently. Sandwiched between those two in 2nd place are Emsworth FC, another fairly new team who are making good tracks in their 1st season, Harry Beckley and Lewis Batey both on target twice to give their team a deserved 4 - 2 win over The Hurricanes who find themselves just above the drop zone at this stage. Six Bells Vets had a great night, winning 7 - 2 against the struggling AFC Mole Hill, 4 goals from Tommy Stevens proving to be too much despite goals from Dan Bryant and Sue Pollard for The Moles who won't be giving up on their chances of staying up, there is a long way to go still so plenty of points to play for. Sadly this was the last game for H&W Pigeons, they gave notice that it was just becoming impossible to get a side out each week now as his core players circumstances had changed and we are sad to see them go. There was no fairy-tale ending either as Kye Rovers bounced back from a mauling last week to show their character in an impressive 7 - 1 win. Harry Sutton joined Jordan Evans in netting twice while Lee Hyett, Jack Legg and Russ Turner all chipped in to to get Kye Rovers double promotion charge back on track, currently sitting 4th just a coule of points off the top. Division One looks like a proper competitive league again this season which is great for everyone involved.
Bottle Tops very nearly went up last season from Division Two and 5 games in it looks like they are having another good crack at it this season. despite being held to a very rare 0 - 0 by Peter File last night they sit top with a point lead over Meat FC who benefited from Leavemyarsealona being away to pull a few points clear in 2nd place. Their 3 - 0 win came courtesy of 2 goals from Baily Kerridge and one from skipper Joe Gargaro with Westleigh Rovers unable to fire back and remain on 1 point. Willian picked up the points from Leavemy's absence and in a wonderful moment for their team, WhatDivock picked up a win to kick off their season. AJ King bagging a hattrick to lift his side off the bottom and give one of the most popular teams at the venue a brilliant win. Lallana's played their part in a great game but in the end it was WhatDivock that came through to win 4 - 3 on a great night for them.
Thank you to everyone for another brilliant night of football at this amazing league. Mike, Nathan, Chris and Mark all fantastic as always, it really is a great league this and so good to see so much interest in it.
Keep up the good work guys, enjoy the bank holiday next weekend, see you all back on the 5th September !
