It was so good to see all 24 teams out in force for the start of our new Monday night 6 a side season at the Havant and Waterlooville stadium.
Premier League Champions Don't Go Nowhere were undone early in their title defence by Cardiac Arrest who had 4 goals from Ben Johnson to thank for their 6 - 3 win and top spot in the league after week 1. Right up there with them after a good start are new side AW.F.C who picked up the points in their game with Barely Legal, 4 - 2 the final score in this one. Newly promoted and reigning Division 1 champions West Lee Mack adjusted to life in the top flight quickly to pick up the early spoils in thier game with Puff Puff Pass, moving straight to 3rd place with a 3 - 1 win. Finally we saw a great game between LP HitSquad and LPU where Kai Gateshill netted twice to take the MVP award and secure the win for LP. Bradley BIles scored both the goals for LPU but they leave empty handed going down 3 - 2 .
Division 2 champions RM Crossfit picked up where they left of as they opened their Division 1 season with a 9 - 2 win over new side Keith FC. A Hatrick from Adam Turner and 4 from Jonsun Smart doing the damage for RM to send them 2nd while Keith FC will be looking to find their feet quickly and get their season started next week. Goal Diggers also had a great start to the season with a 9 - 1 win over Meat FC, Billy Clarke with 5 and Tommy Appleby with 3 securing the points for Goal Diggers.
The rebranded Bub Bub FC picked up a 2 - 1 win over Rapid Decline and MK Dongs edged out Westy United in a classic 5 - 4 Morgan Easen carrying on his goal scoring form from last season with 2 along with Kian Betram while Ben Hammond bagged a couple for Westy who will have to wait for their 1st points of the campaign.
Division Two looks like it could be a closely fought league this season with 3 out of 4 games in week one being very close affairs. Rovers edged a 1 - 0 win over Willian Your Mouth while Tangfastic had two Mitchell Britton goals matched by Island FC's Max Clapp as the tie ended 2 - 2. There was also a tight draw between The Fox and Bombs, Ding Lual with two for The Fox but it ended 3 - 3 with a point for each team seeming a fair result. Swan FC are the early leaders in the Division, they put in a good performance to get past Kye Rovers Res 5 - 0 with Owen Clark scoring a couple for his side to confirm their strong start to the season.
All in all a great night at Havant, thank you to Mike, Nathan, Mark and Jack for managing the night and to all the captains for getting this season off to a great start.
One thing we are looking to make more use of is the Most Valuable Player award for each game. Awarded by the ref there are prizes to be won at the end of the season for this but you can only win the award if you are registered as a player with your team on the Leisure Leagues website. Any questions just ask but it would be good to have all players registered to make the most of this feature.
Have a good week gents, see you next Monday.
