Great to see this new season of 5 a side up and running with some fresh new teams alongside established ones at Heavitree Social Club.
We are two games into the season now and the early leaders are Oldham Pathetic who have racked up 14 goals already and look like being a force to be reckoned with this season.
This week they faced The Elite, who are yet to get off the mark in terms of points. Chris Murphy and Ben Ramsey both netted 4 goals and Chris Hodges added a hattrick as the Pathetics scored 12 with Ash Sparkes' 2 goals and 1 from Marc Joslin giving some encouragement for future weeks for The Elite but they were well beaten this time out. Divine Interception are 2nd, level on points with the leaders but with a plus 8 goal difference, they won 11 - 4 this week, Jake Vincent bagging 6 and Jamie Davies adding 3 to rack up 11 against Cream Payet who's 4 in reply came from Ben Hocking and Kai Davis. Steau Needarest edged a close one 5 - 4 against Scorinbread Utd, Tal Donahue and Conor Bickle both scoring two which was enough to take the points despite a hattrick from Camden Nash.
Ryan Giggs Top 10 entered the league in fine form, winning their 1st game 8 - 3 against Exeter's Young Boys. Matthew Spicer's hattrick for the Young Boys not enough as Owen Cawood's 3 was joined by two each from Ben Baars and Jack Holloway to ensure it was a great 1st night for The Giggsies.
Jake Vincent leads the golden boot race for Divine Interception with 8, one ahead of Chris Murphy from Oldham Pathetic, this season is now in full flow and it will be exciting to how it develops as teams find their feet.
Big thanks to all the captains for embracing the online payments and also a massive thank you to Neil for managing events on the night.
Roll on week 3 next week !
