In a thrilling start to the new Margate Monday 6-a-side Football League season, teams across four divisions took to the pitch to stake their claims for early bragging rights. With a host of goals and some intense competition, the opening week proved to be a showcase of what’s to come in this highly competitive league.
In Division 1, the Wonkey Donkey Wanderers made a strong start with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Expected Toulouse. UTT FC, however, stole the limelight with a stunning 9-1 thumping of FC Bumders, marking their intent early in the season. Longhead FC and Finding Timo had a closely fought match which ended 1-0 in favor of Longhead FC.
Division 2 saw 2 Goals 1 Cup get off to a flying start, demolishing Tik Tak Tekkerz 5-0. Siggs Aside and Interthepub FC kept spectators at the edge of their seats, with the former edging a 3-2 victory. The match of the division however, was a high scoring thriller between Send Umtitis and SAKA FAT Dijk FC, ending in a 4-4 draw.
In Division 3, Sporting Rejects FC were humbled 6-1 by Broadstairs Bumders, while Shi*house Athletic showed no mercy against Conquerors with a whopping 7-0 win. Meanwhile, FURYS pulled off a highlight 10-5 victory against Jim'll 6 It in a goal-fest encounter.
Over in Division 4, The Willows fell 3-1 to Crystal Phallus, while Plough Town FC started their campaign with a clean 3-0 win against INTER YERNAN.
The top scorers for the week were UTT FC from Division 1, Shi*house Athletic from Division 3, and FURYS from Division 3, with 9, 7, and 10 goals respectively, marking their dominance on the first day of the season.
As the season has just begun, it is too early to predict the champions, but the teams have set the tone for an exhilarating season of football ahead.
