In an adrenaline-pumping start to the Melton Mowbray Thursday 6 a side season, teams from both Premier League and Division 1 displayed their prowess on the field, setting the tone for a thrilling season ahead.
In the Premier League, Unreal Melton edged past the Flying Squirrels with a 1-0 victory, courtesy of the exceptional defending skills of Jack Carvell, who was unanimously declared as the week's most valued player. Meanwhile, the match between Le Saux Solid Crew and Gadders FC proved to be an exciting encounter in which Gadders FC emerged victorious with a 6-3 victory. Gadders FC's Tom Hemfrey stole the spotlight by scoring a total of 3 goals, securing his place as the division's top scorer for the week.
In Division 1, the Midlife Mavericks were outwitted by the Blazing Squad, who emerged victorious with a 3-0 win. The game was competitive throughout and was a testament to both teams wanting to play passing football. A remarkable performance was witnessed in the clash between Lord Of The Ings and Calorie Dodgers, with the former trouncing the latter with a whopping 11-1 victory, Ed Nash tried his hardest to claim all 11 despite netting a solid zero. Great teamwork and link play shone through and the star player for this division was Josh Taylor from Lord Of The Ings, who netted a hat trick on his debut. The Gopping Lizards vs Expected Toulouse match ended in a 2-2 draw, adding an extra touch of thrill to the league's first week, a tightly contested, end to end match full of chances and saves. Ant Longley named as MotM with some super saves in the Lizards net .... if only Kerry's overhead effort found the back of the net it could've been a different story! Just a shame Jude wasn't there to witness his dad firing from both feet.
As the season kick-starts with such exhilarating matches, football enthusiasts can look forward to more thrilling encounters in the coming weeks. The outstanding performances from top scorers Tom Hemfrey and Josh Taylor have set high expectations for the rest of the season.
