A brand new season at the Telford Sunday 6-a-side League finally got underway with a thrilling set of matches in both the Premier League and newly formed Division 1. The teams displayed a great degree of skill and passion in what was a fantastic atmosphere down at Oakengates Leisure Centre.
In the Premier League division, Rowdy FC began their title defence with a comfortable 4-2 victory over The Colonels, Goals from Mal, Matteo and a sensational volley from Cal ensured their side opened with a victory, with Harvey bagging both goals for Colonels. New boys Blocko FC triumphed 3-0 against Hardly Learning as they introduced themselves to the league in dominant fashion. Goals from Ben and a double from Jack were enough to secure a great victory. In the division's final match, Polonia FC ran riot against Brexit Beautys with a 7-0 win. The star of the show was undoubtedly striker Kamil who scored an incredible 4 goals. Further goals from Krzysztof, Marcim and Przemyslaw ensured Polonia finished the evening top of the table
Meanwhile, in Division 1, UNATHLETIC BILBAO and Tea And Busquets kicked us off with a thrilling 3-3 draw. Goals from Adam,Jack and Ben gave Tea and Busquets a 3 -1 lead before a fine hatrick from man of the match Joe levelled things up ensuring Bilbao grabbed a share of the spoils on their debut. Sunday Sixes managed to secure a 4-2 win over Pretty In Pink showcasing their credentials for the season ahead. Hatrick hero Tyler was undoubtedly the main man in this one with Jamie also getting the scoresheet. Pretty in Pink battled well and scored 2 good goals themselves through a well-take double from Brad. Finally. Inter the Pub got their season underway with a terrific 4-0 win over Real Estates. In a strong, all round performance, goals from Andrew, Dan C and a brace from Dan R gave Inter the division's top spot going into week 2. Real Estates are very much still finding their feet in the league and will no doubt improve as the weeks go on.
In the evening's friendly match, New side Dogs Ballacks overcame Bailiffs FC with a narrow 2-1 victory.
With week 1 complete, a high bar has been set for the season to come with all in attendance putting on a great display of competitive 6-a-side action. Both divisions are filled with promising teams and talented players, ensuring that the upcoming weeks will be packed with high-quality football and exciting competition.
