The new Monday night 6 a side season is underway in Portchester and the 1st two weeks have seen the players and officials getting to grips with the new rules brought in by leisure leagues to speed up play and to encourage an increased level of skill, as well as more goals. Initially there was resistance as no one likes change but we have now rolled the rules out into 25 of our leagues and can count on one hand the amount of teams not impressed with the changes. The overriding feedback has been that it's a far more exciting, rewarding and technical game with the new rules in play so they are here to stay and hopefully a few weeks of bedding in will prove to the doubters that they do in fact improve our games and definitely take away the major controversies that our officials had to deal with previously.
We have moved to one division of 12 teams now having said goodbye to a few teams following the conclusion of last season, we do have one space to fill so if you are looking for a night for 6 a side in Portchester we can stick you straight in on a Monday night, just sign up online and you can play next week. It's free to join so now is the time!
The new season see's Swan Lake sitting top having won well in both of their opening games, 18 - 4 in week one against Borussia Donmund, backed up with a 5 - 0 against Who Asked in week 2. Eliot Roberts leading the way in the goal scoring with 6 so far this season. 2nd and also off to a great start are last seasons Div One winners Riocurdyanan who also have 2 wins to their name. 10 - 1 Vs Coldeast Chaos followed by a closer 8 - 3 win against Borussia Donmund who undoubtably had the toughest start to the season in terms of the fixtures and will be looking forward to a few weeks where they can get their season launched. Is Your Motherwell benefitted from No Show Harris not getting a side out this week to maintain their unbeaten start to the season following on from their 9 - 4 win in week 1 and they find themselves in 3rd spot. Mirror Signal have a win and a draw from their 2 games, getting the better of No Show 8 - 1 last week before playing out an incredibly rare 0 - 0 this time out against What Happened, for whom this was their 1st point having gone down 7 - 1 to Who Asked on the opening night. Occasionally United have one win and a loss from their 2 games so far. Having gone down 9 - 4 to Is Your Motherwell in round 1 they bounced back this week to win well against Fullerbeer, 9 - 1 the score in this one leaving Fullerbeer with just the 2 points from their points win last week.
So I think that covers the 1st few weeks games, apologies if i missed anything, thank you to all the players for embracing the new rules and giving it a good go, also big thanks to the refs and supervisors who have had to get used to the new rules as much if not more than the players so well done everyone. Lets hope we can get the final place filled quickly and make this season a great one for 6 a side in Portchester.
Have a good week guys
