Excellent start to the East Cowes 6 a side season!

It was an excellent start to the East Cowes Sunday 6 a side season last night at Queensgate Primary with all teams in attendance. It makes a huge difference to the enjoyment of the league for all when teams are committed week in week out so long may it continue.

So we have a Div 1 and a Div 2 this season, maybe I will change the names to Prem and Div 1 if I can. We welcomed back Zidane's, Mataz and Bacon Sane and had a little shift around. OFOB Strollers have vacated the league, Bacuna and Matip have merged and FC Union Street have moved onto the waiting list at Ryde. That gives us two divisions of 8 and the opening night saw plenty of close games and a couple of upsets.

Vectis Rovers installed themselves as the early leaders in Div 1 as they defeated newly promoted Lads On Toure 10-3, credit to Lads On Toure for giving the higher division and go having had the option to stay down. The returning Kyle Follows scored a hat-trick for Gylfi along with hat-tricks from Brad Austin and Nathan Martin which saw them win 10-5 against Neville Wears Prada to go second. Now for two somewhat surprising results as on the opening day as Tinchy 2.0 won their match against Bacon Sane 7-6 with Henry West on the scoresheet 4 times while Mataz FC put in the performance of the day to win 7-5 against Murder On Zidane's Floor. 

Billy Chugg hit a double hat-trick for Touch Matip who proved to strong for Khedira Pin Drop on the night as they won 11-4, although Khedira captain Owen Connelly did nip in to score a cheeky header. Headed goals are definitely something we will see more of with the new rules. James Knox and Steven Deakin scored a hat-trick each as AC Me Rollin won away at The Gym 6-3 while Muga also had an away win, beating Sancho's and Cheese 5-2. Finally a nine goal thriller between Badder Roma and We Lose Every Week ended in victory for Roma 5-4, Darren Lewis with a brace for Roma as they got their season off to a winning start.
