It was good to see a couple of new teams down at our Ryde Thursday night 6 a side league as we expanded the league to two divisions of 8. We now have room for another couple of teams to take the remaining two places.
Champions Geezas kicked off the season in fine form as they defeated last seasons runners up Salt & Pepe 8-3. Jordan Love hitting 4, Connor G with a brace and strikes from Kieran Ford and Connor Dingle for Geezas. New boys Goldies took a 5-1 win in their first match against the other new team East Ryde Massive. Jamie Dyer scoring all five for Goldies. Getting On A Bit and Hurrells had to settle for a point each in a highly competitive encounter which ended 3-3. Clarke Bowerman 2 and Danny Murphy with Getting On A Bit's goals while Ryan Mcdowell 2 and Tom Radford were on the scoresheet for Hurrells. Finally the two promoted sides faced each other as last seasons Div 1 runners up Butlins Bandits impressed with a 4-0 win over Roverners. The goals were spread out around the team as Aaron Doncaster, Asa Gough, James Dijkstra and Shane Kettle were all on target.
Men Behaving Chadli are one of the favourites for the Div 1 title and they went straight to the top with a 11-1 victory against Raul Moat-drid. Wight United held on for a great win against Vectis Rovers in a match that came to life in the second half as Vectis pushed for a come back. United eventually getting the goals to win 8-6. In the other match Class On Ash continued on from their fine form from the end of last season to secure a 2-1 win over Chamakh My Pitch Up.
