We have reached the conclusion of another brilliant season of Isle of Wight Leisure Leagues in Ryde as our 6 a side campaign comes to and end. This has been a very popular league since the pitch was refreshed at Ryde Academy with the new 3G surface proving to be a huge upgrade for the venue. We have 16 good sides here and brilliant officials so we really couldn't ask for much more from this league, big thanks to everyone involved this season, it's definitely been one of the best with the introduction of the new rules and great that most teams have embraced them and took it as a positive move to introduce them to our leagues.
Massive congratulations to Ryde Rovers who claim the premier league title this season, they finish on 27 points, 5 clear of East Ryde Massive in 2nd with Sat Fesh 3rd on 19 points. Last seasons champions Netsix recovered from a terrible start to the season to finish 4th while Crouch Potatoes surprised a few people with their level of abiity, a great 1st season for them to finish 5th. Our newest team FC Union Street prop up the table but as they only played 3 games themselves they will stay in the Prem with Roverners joining Vectis Rovers in taking the drop to Division One.
Their places in the top flight will be taken by Division One champions Scouting For Goals and runners up Venom City. Scouting had a brilliant season, running away with the title and ending 9 points clear of the rest. Venom City were also excellent in their 1st full season, gaining promotion just a point ahead of Interurnan and Butlins Bandits who both end on 16 points and will be amongst the favourites to claim the division title next season. Khedira and Chamakh fill the 5th and 6th places with Goonies finishing just ahead of Getting on a bit who prop up the table.
The individual player awards this season are as follows; Harrison Taylor finished way ahead in the goal scoring stats for East Ryde Massive, finishing on 39 goals, some classy finishes in there too including a scorpion kick last night that sadly wasn't caught on camera. Rob Jackson was next best with 22 for Roverners, a great effort in a challenging season for his team. The Division One award is shared between Aaron Doncaster of Butlins Bandits and Kyle Follows from Scouting For Goals. Top effort from them, especially Kyle who had to sit out 6 weeks of the season. Keaton Clinton from Interurnan netted 23 goals in 3rd place and he also picks up the seasons MVP award for both leagues. An award given out by the referees when a player has an outstanding game. Keaton picked up 3 of these through the season and is a worthy winner of the award.
The trophies are ordered and should be ready to present next week when we kick off the exciting new season. Only left to say thanks again for an excellent season, congratulations to the winners and good luck in the new campaign.
See you next Thursday.
