The new Ryde Thursday 6 a side season got underway last night. Raul Moat-drid unfortunately had to pull out at late notice but did pay their match fee and will be confirming whether they will be returning next week. Strangely there was a no show from Hurrell's Return, we will be finding out what happened and confirming if they will be back next week to pick up their trophy. Thank you to the sides for helping out with a couple of teams away.
Without going into detail we unfortunately had to hand out a lifetime ban to a player for foul and abusive language towards match officials last night. The team captain has apologised on his players behalf for the incident however the player will not be allowed back. Whether you agree with a decision or not during a game it's unfair on referee's to have to put up with this. It's becoming so hard to get refs these days.
Onto the football now and there was plenty of early season optimism floating round the pitches on the opening day. Fresh start for all teams and it was one of our longest serving teams that started with a bang in the Premier League as Salt & Pepe went to the top of the table. They took on last season's runners up Goldies and bagged the points with a 10-4 victory. Both Harry Starling and Jordan Smith scored hat-tricks but were outdone by teammate Matt Walter who hit 4. In reply Dexter Collins scored 3 and Taylor Brooks found the back of the net for Goldies. The two promoted sides met on the opening day and it was last season Div 1 runners up East Ryde Massive that edged this encounter beating Sat Fesh 4-3. Kyle Follows 2, Josh Attrill and Adrian Voigt scoring for East Ryde while Sam Higgin 2 and Liam Lock scored for Sat Fesh. Scouting for Goals also got off to a winning start as they defeated Butlins Bandits 4-1 while Roverners had a points match win due to Hurrell's absence.
Tyler Randle smashed in 5 goals during a 6-1 win over Class On Ash to send them to the top of Div 1. Cool Runnings are second after picking up a points match win due to Raul Moat-drid not being able to make it. Chamakh My Pitch Up were also winners as they look to improve on a lowly finish last season. They started with a 6-2 win over Vectis Rovers, Kyle Bull with 5 to add to Charlie Clarke's strike. Finally there was a win for Going Toulouse in their first full season as they inflicted a 3-1 loss on Getting On A Bit.
Thank you to all our teams. Also thank you to our refs Jukesy, Nick and Chris. See you all next week. The trophies and medals have arrived now!
