The Ryde Thursday 6 a side football league kicked off its new season last night, with some thrilling matches being played in both the Premier League and Division 1.
In the Premier League, Puyol Pants Down got off to a flying start as they scored eight goals to beat Goldies, who got four in reply but start their return to the top flight with a defeat. Champions Sat Fesh faced Kirbs Return had a nail-biting match, with the newly promoted Kirbs causing an early season upset by winning 6 - 5. Ryde Rovers FC also secured a win in their match against MoLeicesters 6 - 4 the score in that one.
Walker Milsome was the top scorer in the Premier League, scoring a fine hat trick for Kirbs Return.
Over in Division 1, Vectis Rovers won their match against new side Ayew Shaw Bro 7 - 2 while The Mighty View also started off on the right foot as they beat Chamakh My Pitch Up 6 - 3. The experienced Roverners managed to secure a close victory in their 1st game back in Division One against another young, new side Expected Toulouse, Roverners just edging it late on 5 - 4. Hardly Athletic put in a great team effort in their game against Khedira Pin Drop to kick start their season with a comfortable 9 - 0 win and are probably the team to beat in Division One this season.
Eddie Johnson was the top scorer in Division 1, scoring four goals for Hardly Athletic.
It was a great start to the season for all the teams involved in the Ryde Thursday 6 a side football league, and we can't wait to see more thrilling matches in the upcoming weeks.
