On a damp but riveting night of local football, a series of thrilling matches unfolded in the Ryde Thursday 6 a side Football League. This was the third week of the season, and our teams were battling it out for early season points in the Premier League and Division 1.
In the top flight, Crown FC put on a spectacular show, defeating an understrength Roverners in a high-scoring game that ended 7 - 4. Despite the result a Tom Wathen hat trick gave Roverners something to cheer while for Crown there was a brace for both Brad Austin and Val Isac to keep up their strong start to the season. Ryde Rovers FC also displayed their prowess in a gripping match against Puyol Pants Down, coming out on top with a score of 11 - 6 to sit top of the premier league. In another showcasing of talent, Ivory Toast triumphed over Vectis Rovers with a score of 10 - 4 with young Frankie Foster catching the eye with a classy performance for the defending league champions.
Switching gears to Division 1, it was Hardly Athletic that stole the show. They made their dominance known with an 8 - 2 victory over Manchester Obe City. The Wonkers also had an exciting evening, cruising to a 12 - 2 victory over Chamakh My Pitch Up. In a closely fought contest, Double Pogba and Koke came out on top against Khedira Pin Drop III, with a final score of 7 - 5. This was the 1st taste of victory for Double Pogba and Koke and the resiliant efforts of their goalkeeper Aaron Thomas went a long way towards securing the memorable win. He was MotM in this game and his exceptional performance on the field earned him the title of the Most Valued Player for this week's matches.
This week's games were nothing short of exciting, leaving players and officials eagerly looking forward to the next round of matches in the Ryde Thursday Football League.
