Ryde's much-anticipated Thursday 6-a-side Football League is back and better than ever, with Week 2 witnessing some thrilling games and exceptional individual performances.
In the Premier League division, Ivory Toast demonstrated their strong offensive capabilities, defeating current champions Crown FC with a 5-2 win that will be long remembered by all involved. Kyle Drew bagged a brace with Sam Cant was also on target as Ivory Toast put down a huge marker in the early stages of the title race.
Hardly Athletic's below par start to the season continued as they fell short for the 2nd week running. Despite putting up a robust defensive front, the former champions couldn't hold back a rejuvenated Puyol Pants Down team, resulting in a 5-3 defeat.
The late game in the Premier League produced a goal fest, as Youth Offending Team and Roverners went head-to-head. Roverners emerged victorious with an incredible 15-6 score, thanks in part to a phenomenal performance by veteran Joshua Woodnutt, who alone netted an impressive 6 goals, becoming this weeks top scorer in the top flight.
In Division 1, the competition was equally fierce. Khedira Pin Drop III triumphed over Chamakh My Pitch Up in an 8-5 victory, largely due to the brilliance of birthday boy Luke Warde who's exceptional performance saw him net a fine hat-trick as well as proving to be the driving force in his teams win. Danny Murphy also netted 4 and subsequently claimed the top scorer spot for Division 1.
Wonkers (formally Goldies) returned to action didn't hold back against Manchester Obe City, winning 6-2 with the goals shared about, to see them flying in the early stages of the Division One title race while Ryde Rovers FC also made a sucessful come back to 6 a side as they emerged victorious against Vectis Rovers, It was 9-4 at the final whistle in a dramatic game that saw an Ellis Lomas hat trick backed up by 2 each for Louis Strickland and Bill Scott
With such high stakes and intense competition, Ryde Thursday's 6-a-side league promises even more action and excitement in the forthcoming weeks.
