In the exciting world of local sports, week 5 of the Ryde Thursday 6-a-side football league unfolded last night with some thrilling matches across both divisions.
In the Premier League, Puyol Pants Down and Crown FC clashed in a spirited game, each refusing to back down, resulting in a 3-3 stalemate. Pat O'Meara continued his red hot goal scoring form for the defending champions and remains the league top marksman as we head to week 5 of the season. Roverners, secured a much needed win against Ivory Toast as they came away 4-2 winners. Rob Jackson and Luke Ward were on target for Roverners who blew the title race wide open with a huge win against the league leaders.
However, the highlight of the Premier League was the Hardly Athletic vs Youth Offending Team match. The former outplayed the latter in a goal-heavy game that ended 8-4 in favour of Hardly Athletic to give them their 1st points of the season. This sensational performance was led by none other than Ryan Phillips, who was recognized as the week's most valued player.
Over in Division 1, Manchester Obe City narrowly defeated Chamakh My Pitch Up with a 7-6 victory, largely thanks to Aaron Doncaster's outstanding four-goal performance, earning him the top scorer spot for the division. Meanwhile, Ryde Rovers FC edged out Khedira Pin Drop III in a tight contest which ended 4-3 in their favour. Ellis Lomas' brace lifting his side level on points with the leaders. Vectis Rovers put on a strong display against a below par Wonkers, securing a comfortable 5-2 win to put a dent in Wonkers title charge.
As we move into the next week of matches, we look forward to more exciting performances from these talented local teams. The Ryde Thursday League is proving to be a great platform for talented players to express themselves playing the beautiful game.
