Play in the Shrewsbury Monday football league powered by Leisure Leagues
In a gripping final week of the Shrewsbury Monday 6 a side Football League, both the Premier League and Division 1 saw their champions emerge victorious.
In the Premier League, champions Tony's Tigers signed off with a comfortable 2-0 victory over WBS FC. A fantastic double from captain Josh ensured they finished the season with an impressive 18 points and nine wins in total. They will look to continue their dominance next season as WBS will look to mount a title challenge of their own.
In the division's other fixture, departing side SVR saw off Passion FC with a 3 1 victory. A well taken goal from Jack and a brace from the impressive Eddie ensured SVR grabbed a deserved victory. Passion replied through Alex but ultimately came up short in this one.
Meanwhile, in Division 1, the athletic prowess of Hardly Athletic shone through as they cruised to the league title with a total of 18 points and nine wins. Their great success was partially due to the incredible performance of Kieran Fielden, who scored a total of four goals in the final week as they beat FC Shrewbacca 4 1. Shrewbacca's Sam scored a consolation at the other end.
Barely Athletic rounded off their season with a well earned 2 1 victory over Halfway Wanderers. Goals from Dec and captain Chad were enough to grab the 2 points on offer with Liam striking back for Wanderers.
In the evening's final match, the battle of the new boys TK Maxx and Saloppy Seconds ended in a 4 1 victory for TK Maxx. An impressive double for Toby and goals from Matt and Robby gave their side the win which saw them snatch the second promotion spot. Mitch replied with a well taken strike for Saloppy Seconds.
This week's matches provided a fitting end to an exhilarating season. All teams put up commendable performances and showed true sportsmanship. As the season draws to a close, we congratulate both Tony's Tigers and Hardly Athletic on their well-deserved titles and congratulate TK Maxx on their promotion. We now look forward to another exciting season of the Shrewsbury Monday 6 a side Football League which gets underway next week Monday 29th July.
