Play in the Shrewsbury Monday football league powered by Leisure Leagues
Exciting results marked the eighth week of Shrewsbury Monday night 6-a-side league, as teams from both the Premier League Division and Division 1 battled it out at Shrewsbury College.
In the Premier League Division, Barely Athletic secured a narrow 1-0 victory over WBS FC, In a tight affair, a single goal was enough to see Barely claim all 2 points as they stifled WBS of clear cut chances. Keeper Harry made a couple of key saves with WBS unable to break down the highly organised Barely back line.
In a key fixture, relegation threatened SVR emerged victorious over title-chasing FC Back of the Neto with a score of 3-2. The star player was undoubtedly Jim from SVR, who scored a phenomenal three goals to grab his side the victory. Neto, missing a couple of key players, fought hard to come back with goals from Scott and Ali but ultimately SVR were too strong in what was their best performance of the campaign.
With 2 games remaining SIx Offenders lead the league by a single point. WBS are in the relegation zone with already relegated Falcons.
Meanwhile, the Division 1 matches were equally intense. Passion FC outshone newcomers Halfway Wanderers with an astounding score of 10-0. Wanderers struggled to get up to speed as "The Passionfruits" led by an astonishing 6 goal performance from Harrison, romped to victory.
The top of the table clash between Tony's Tigers and Ternhill Rangers failed to disappoint with the match ending in a nail-biting 4-4 draw. Goals from Archie and Joel for Tigers and White and Munn for Ternhill FC left us on the edge of our seats as neither side could find a winning goal to secure victory.
Shrewbacca also continued to make their mark by defeating The Other Team 3-1. The victory, with all 3 goals scored from the impressive Joe, moved "The Bacca Boys" level on points at the top and in with a fantastic chance of promotion with 2 games to go. The Other Team played well in parts but couldn't quite match their opponents on this occasion. Despite their loss, they remain in with an outside chance of promotion.
