At Shrewsbury College last night, spectators we treated to more fantastic, competitive 6-a-side action as week 9 of the Shrewsbury Monday 6 a side Football League unfolded.
In the Premier League division, an intense clash between WBS FC and Tonys Tigers saw the latter emerge victorious, In a match that would go a long way to deciding this season's title winners, Tigers secured a vital 4-1 win. Tigers' Archie Perkins led the charge with a stunning tally of 2 goals in all round terrific performance. His exceptional display not only solidified his team's position but also earned him the title of the week's Most Valued Player.
Moving on to Division 1, the football fervour was just as high. In a nail-biting match, SVR eked out a tight 3-2 victory against Hardly Athletic. A double from in-form Eddie and a further strike from Tom edged out impressive newcomers Hardly who showed they will be a force to be reckoned with once they adapt to the league. 2 good goals from Nathan put Hardly in the lead but SVR came back late to grab the victory,.
Meanwhile, leaders Passion FC ensured they will be a Premier League side next season as they beat FC Shrewbacca with a comprehensive score of 4-1. Captain Richie Lay of Passion FC grabbed a well-taken double with further goals from Olly and Alex as they out fought their opponents on the night. Shrewbacca were in the game for long periods and netted through Reece but paid for a lapse of concentration, conceding 2 goals in quick succession before half time.
The outstanding performances by Archie Perkins and Richie Lay have indeed set the bar high for the final week of the Shrewsbury Monday 6-a-side league. There is still plenty to play for as the Tigers look to secure their maiden title and SVR and Grand Theft Porto battle it or for the remaining promotion spot.
