Play in the Shrewsbury Monday football league powered by Leisure Leagues
Shrewsbury College experienced its eighth week of thrilling matches last night. Matches across both the Premier League and Division 1 saw teams clash in an electrifying display of talent and desire.
In the Premier League, Hardly Athletic fought valiantly but fell short against FC BACK OF THE NETO, with a 2-3 loss. A double from Harry proved pivotal as Neto kept their title hopes alive. For Hardly, it was another narrow defeat and a bitter pill to swallow having played well throughout.
WBS FC edged out passion FC in a tight encounter that ended 1-0. Dan Ward grabbed the winning goal in a fantastic display in what was a return to form for the WBS lads and a hammer blow to Passion FC's title bid.
In-form Tony's Tigers undoubtedly stole the show with a devastating 10-1 victory over TK Maxx Club De Futbol. The unstoppable Oli Mcdougall and Josh Marshall of Tony's Tigers ran the show, netting a stunning total of 3 goals each as they kept their slim chances of retaining their title alive. They will need to win their remaining 2 matches and hope results go their way if they are to lift a third successive crown.
In Division 1, Barely Athletic displayed their dominance over FC Shrewbacca, securing a 4-0 victory. Ellis starred, netting a dazzling treble as Barely kept up their 100% record with their Premier League return already confirmed.
Manj Dog will join Barely in the top division and they wasted no time in dismantling KFC by 10 goals to 1. Charlie Jones helped himself to 4 goals with Jack equally impressive as he netted a hatrick. It was a chastening evening for KFC who will hope for easier games ahead.
New boys Jock Itch FC managed a resounding 5-0 win against Halfway Wanderers to secure their first win. Target man Michael fired in 3 terrific goals with Tom B rifling a double of his own as Jock Itch showed their class in their first league outing.
With just two weeks left in the season, teams are battling fiercely to secure their finishing positions. A 5 way battle remains in the absorbing Premier Division with the race for the league title going down to the wire. Passion FC still lead the way with Neto and TK Maxx poised only 2 points back and the rampaging Tigers lurking menacingly a point behind in 4th.
Next week promises to deliver even more thrilling matches as the Shrewsbury Monday League nears its conclusion. Football fans and players alike wait with bated breath for what the remaining weeks have in store for them.
