In an electrifying but extremely windy week at the Shrewsbury Monday 6-a-side League, teams battled it out on the pitch with vital points at stake.
In the Premier League division, Tony's Tigers locked horns with WBS FC with the latter sitting 2 points behind their opponents at the top of the league. The match ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw with neither side giving an inch. WBS took the lead through Aiden however they were pegged back shortly after the interval by a well-taken strike from Lewis Tooze. Both sides pushed for a victory but ultimately had to settle for a point apiece. In the division's friendly match, FC Back of the Neto played out a highly entertaining 7-2 victory over Barely Athletic.
Meanwhile, in Division 1, all eyes were on the top 3 as they looked to maintain their promotion pushes in the battle for the top 2 spots. In the division's opening match Eddie Whitehouse-Jones from SVR netted an impressive total of 2 goals, helping his team secure a 3-1 victory over newcomers Hardly Athletic. Hardly showed they can mix it well with the sides in the division, putting in an impressive display in what was a closely fought match. Kieran netted the only goal for Hardly with Jack rounding off the scoring for SVR.
Grand Theft Porto new only a win would do for them to keep pace at the top of the league. They managed to secure a comfortable 4-2 win over spirited Halfway Wanderers. Doubles from the impressive, 80's boy-band sounding duo, Gaz and Mike were enough to bag the points with Aiden and David replying for Wanderers.
League leaders Passion FC were next up, facing off against inconsistent FC Shrewbacca. A stellar all round performance saw "The Passionfruits" cruise to a 5-1 victory through goals from Alex, Tom and WIll and a brace from composed finisher Olly. Reece grabbed a good goal back for Shrewbacca but they were ultimately no match for their opponents on the night.
This week's results leaves both divisions balanced on a knife edge going into the penultimate week. In the Premier, Tony's Tigers lead the way by a single point from Neto with WBS menacingly poised a point further back. In Division 1, Passion FC lead the way with Grand Theft Porto and SVR seemingly battling it out for the second promotion spot 2 points and 3 points behind respectively.
