Shrewsbury 6-a-side Promotion and Relegation Battles Hot Up

Play in the Shrewsbury Monday football league powered by Leisure Leagues

Excitement reigned supreme on the pitch during Week 7 of the Shrewsbury Monday 6-a-side Football League, with thrilling matches in both the Premier League Division and Division 1.

In the Premier League Division, it was a night of closely fought battles. Barely Athletic went head-to-head with Six Offenders, with both teams putting their all into the match, resulting in a 2-2 draw. Goalkeeper, turned star striker, Harry fired in a penalty before George rifled in a second for Barely as they took a surprise half-time lead. Offenders, as always, rallied in the second half and grabbed 2 quick fire goals to equalise. Both goals will go down as own goals however credit goes to Jesse who created both. 

In a relegation 4 pointer, SVR showcased their skill and finesse against Up The Falcons, securing a 3-1 victory. Jack Pengilly of SVR emerged as the man of the match, grabbing himself a brace. Falcons battled hard in an end to end game with Neil grabbing a deserved goal however past champs SVR eventually showed their class to secure the victory.

At the top of the league, FC BACK OF THE NETO moved a point clear with a hard-fought 2-0 victory against WBS FC. Depite a strong performance from the WBS boys, Neto - who were upset at missing watching the boring Wolves game - scored 2 goals in the second half courtesy of Ali and Charlie.

Meanwhile, Division 1 saw its share of thrilling moments as well. Resurgent FC Shrewbacca triumphed over league leaders TERNHILL RANGERS with a 2-0 victory. Goals from Sam and Joe secured their win in an end to end match full of quality and entertainment. It is their 4th win in a row making them the team to watch as the season comes to a climax. Ternhill were left to rue missed opportunities but still stand a great chance of securing promotion to the Premier league.

Passion FC and Tony's Tigers engaged in a thrilling match that ended in a 5-3 victory for Tony's Tigers. Cam from Passion FC emerged as the week's top scorer in Division 1, demonstrating an outstanding performance to grab a hatrick. However, his efforts were in vain as the Tigers blew away their opponents with a 4 goal blitz at the beginning of the second half. Goals from Joe, Josh, Liam and a double from the exceptional Archie took them out of sight despite an impressive late rally from the Passion boys. In the evenings friendly match, The Other Team faced off against Barely Athletic in an entertaining affair. Both sides put in strong, competitive performances with Barely edging the match thanks to a terrific free-kick from Harry.

As we move into Week 8, battles for the title, relegation and promotion are really hotting up with single points separating numerous teams. Can Neto hold their nerve and secure the Premier League title? Will Shrewbacca make a late charge for promotion?
