Play in the Shrewsbury Monday football league powered by Leisure Leagues
In an electrifying final week of the season, Shrewsbury Monday's 6 a side Football league crowned its champions in two divisions, Premier League and Division 1.
In the Premier League, a thrilling match between WBS FC and FC BACK OF THE NETO unfolded, resulting in a 3 - 6 victory in favour of FC BACK OF THE NETO. The star of the match was undoubtedly Ash, who managed to net an impressive total of 2 goals for NETO in an end to end classic. Both sides knew they could not claim top spot but the winner would grab the runners up spot with Neto ensuring they finished 2nd to back up their 1st place finish last season. The defeat brings an end to a promising season for WBS who improved massively after flirting with relegation last time out.
The crown for the Premier League division went to the unstoppable Tony's Tigers, finishing the season with a remarkable 18 points and 8 victories. Their consistent performance throughout the season ensured they grabbed their maiden title victory and they will be looking to be the first side to retain the title next time around.
Over in Division 1, Halfway Wanderers took on Hardly Athletic, with the latter team emerging victorious with a score of 3 - 1. Goals from Joe, Adam and Mark gave the league's newest recruits a convincing victory despite spurning numerous chances. A special mention must go to Adam Fulbrook, who was recognized as the most valued player of the week. Adam's exceptional skills and determination made him an integral part of his team's victory. Halfway defended superbly throughout, fighting for every ball but succumbed to defeat late on despite being level for most of the match. A goal from Lee gave them hope but Hardly had a little too much in the end.
Another noteworthy match in the division was between title winners Passion FC and fellow promoted side SVR, in which Passion FC secured a 2 - 0 win. With the league's promotion places already sown up. the top 2 put on a entertaining display with chances at both ends. Alex, a key player for Passion FC, stood out, scoring a terrific goal from a free kick and organising his side throughout in an impressive all-action display. A further goal from Harrison was enough to secure the points. SVR played well for large parts with very little between the sides on the night but ultimately they could not breach Passion's strong defence. Passion FC, conclude the season with an astonishing 18 points and 9 wins and both them and SVR will now move up into the Premier Division to challenge the league's top sides for supremacy.
In the evening's friendly match, Barely Athletic secured a thrilling 6-4 victory over Shrewbacca. Both sides have had mixed seasons and threw caution to the wind as they attacked relentlessly. Shrewbacca finish the season 4th in Division 1 and will be looking for greater consistency next season while Barely Athletic will move down into division 1 after a season of struggle in the Premiership.
