Football enthusiasts witnessed an unforgettable
finale last night, as the Shrewsbury Monday 6-a-side Football League season
came to a close.
In the Premier League division, three highly entertaining matches took place. In the
evening’s first match WBS FC secured a commendable 4-0 victory against Barely
Athletic. In a fiercely competitive match, WBS’s non-stop energy saw them
outwork their opposition and secure a comfortable victory with James Norris and
Josh Lewis-Duckett particularly impressing.
Six Offenders left no room for mercy in the evening’s
second match, scoring a whopping 8 goals against Shrewsbury Sixes. In a tight
first half, both teams created chances with Shrewsbury Sixes Golden Million
making a string of impressive saves to keep the score at 2-1 at half time. In
the second half, Offenders went through the gears. Ben and Sean in particular created
havoc in the Sixes defence with Sean bagging himself 4 goals to finish as the
league’s top scorer. Unfortunately Golden Million had to leave early to go to
work leaving Sixes without their impressive goalkeeper for the second half however
they still created a number of good chances that they unfortunately were unable to take.
The final match of the evening saw Football Team
face off against league leaders SVR. SVR, already assured of the league title, eventually came out on top with a 3-1 victory. Eddie and leading scorer Rob
were again amongst the goals as they secured the win with 2 late efforts.
Football Team, fielding a couple of new recruits, impressed for large periods
in a very even match. They will be hoping to compete strongly next season
having improved their performances massively over the last couple of weeks.
As the dust settled, SVR emerged victorious in the Premier League division.
With nine points and four wins, they clinically finished their campaign on a
high note. This triumph marks a significant milestone for SVR, as they proved
their mettle in a league filled with fierce competition. Defending their crown
next season will undoubtedly be a tough ask with some exceptional sides now
gracing our premier division. The competition next time around is set to be even tougher.
Our fantastic league is set to extend to a
second division. We are looking for the last couple of teams to sign up and
