Shrewsbury College witnessed another fantastic night of action as the Shrewsbury Monday 6-a-side Football League kicked off the new season last night.
Six Offenders set the tone for the evening, demonstrating their superior skills
on the field with a dominant 10-2 victory over Football Team. The team came out
all guns blazing, sending a clear message to the other teams that they are a
force to be reckoned with this season. The star player, Ben Allen, spearheaded
the team's attack, netting in an impressive total of 2 goals, thereby making
him the top scorer in the Premier League division for the week. Unfortunately
for Football Team, several of their players were unable to make the game after
their girlfriends made them stay home and watch Coronation Street. We hope to
see the rest of the team back with a bang next week to assist their team.
In the evening’s second match, Barely Athletic took on Shrewsbury Sixes.
Following a fairly uneventful first half, the game came to life in the second
as Barely Athletic upped their level to score a series of quick fire goals.
Shrewsbury fought valiantly but were unable to match their opponents who came
out comfortable 5-1 winners.
As the season progresses, we anticipate more thrilling matches and exceptional
individual performances. The first week of the Shrewsbury Monday 6-a-side
Football League has set the stage for what promises to be an exciting season
with every team gunning for the coveted top spot in the Premier League
division.
However, the highlight of the week was the
close-fought match between WBS FC and SVR. WBS FC managed to pull off a narrow
1-0 triumph over SVR, thanks to the outstanding performance by Dan Ward. Ward's
masterclass performance on the pitch not only led his team to victory, but also
earned him the title of 'Most Valued Player' for the week, a well-deserved
accolade for his stellar performance. Last season’s champions, SVR were missing
a few regular players and were unable to find a way through the well-drilled
WBS defence despite throwing their keeper forward for the last minute. SVR’s
defeat will give hope to their rivals that this season will be their
opportunity to win the title.
