Shrewsbury's Premier League Monday night six-a-side football competition heated up in its third week of play, with some thrilling match-ups and remarkable individual performances on display.
In a night of intense competition, Barely Athletic emerged victorious against current champions SVR with a 2-0 scoreline, showcasing their defensive prowess by keeping a clean sheet. Barely captain Nathan bagged 2 goals to give his side a well-earned victory that propelled them into title contention. A depleted SVR created multiple opportunities but failed to take their chances on the night. They will now work hard in the coming weeks to recapture the form that made them last season's champions.
Meanwhile, in the evening's second match, Six Offenders and WBS FC battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw, demonstrating equal strength and skill on the pitch. In an end-to-end affair both teams struggled to take their chances until WBS grabbed the lead through a well taken strike by James Norris. WBS knew a victory would take them top with Aiden Pugh particularly impressive in taking the game to their opponents however Six offenders raised their game significantly to strike back almost immediately through captain Ben. Despite the efforts of both teams, the game then petered out to a draw that keeps both teams level at the top of the table.
The final game of the evening saw a seven goal thriller between Shrewsbury Sixes and Football Team with Football Team displaying an exceptional performance to triumph with a 5-2 victory. Their performance was driven by the scoring finesse of Dan Wells. the division's top scorer this week, who netted an impressive two goals, contributing significantly to his team's win.
With only two weeks left of the season, the stakes are higher than ever. With 3 teams on top of the table with 5 points, teams are increasingly aware that every game counts in the race towards the league title.
