It was a good evening's football in the Worcester Wednesday 6 a side league this week which saw all teams in attendance throughout the night as scheduled across the divisions.
We welcomed new team Exeter Gently into Division One this week, and although they were beaten 3-1 in their opening game, there was no disgrace in this result as they lost to second placed Lads on Toure! They will be looking to get back into the swing of things after playing before over the next two weeks.
There was a huge game in the Premier Division this week as the top two met in what seemed to be a straight shootout for the title given previous form. Chicken Ball took the initiative with two to play and inflicted a second defeat on the spin on Small Pond, 4-2 the final score in a thrilling encounter, Chicken Ball now sit two points clear with a superior goal difference worth an extra point at this stage of the campaign.
The other games in the Premier Division were entertaining enough too, Fatletico Madrid (formerly Sporting a Beergut) were 4-0 winners over Murder on Zidane's Floor, who, despite a brief revivial look set to be playing Division One football next season. The second relegation place is still very much to play for though and Wednesday Social's 2-2 draw with Coral FC saw them move out of the drop zone, that result combined with Up The Alma's 4-3 defeat to Dales Sixes saw Alma drop into the danger zone with 2 to play.
The Division One promotion race rumbles on and there was change at the top again this week! Claines FC went to the top of the table as they romped to a 5-1 win over fellow promotion hopefuls New Inn FC, who drop to fourth but are by no means out of it. The leaders fate is now in their own hands as they face third and second respectively in the coming weeks!
Lads on Toure moved into second space with a 3-1 win over the new team as mentioned above, combined with Expecting Toulouse being beaten by the same scoreline against Werder Beermen. At the other end of the table, Paris Ganjaman moved themselves away from the drop zone, albeit on goal difference after thrashing fellow relegation candidates Bley You Off The Park 6-2. Both ends of this division could drastically change in the last two weeks!
Not as much drama in Division Two as Brap FC have already sewn up one of the promotion places, and they continue to steam roll the league, this week running out 9-3 winners over Bifta Lifta United, one more point will confirm the title for the leaders. However, the second promotion place is now very much up for grabs after this weeks action. Second placed Enter Team Name lost a ten goal thriller to Sporting Bad Haircuts by 6 goals to 4, whilst third placed Gotta Die For 3 Pints moved within a point of the team above them as they were comfortable 3-0 winners over Ruud VN. The action was completed with a game that ended all square between Nag Shuts and West Ham Sandwich who settled for a point apiece in a 2-2 draw.
We thank all teams for their continued reliability and commitment towards the league which keeps the league running on time and smoothly each week too. As ever, if you have any queries regarding the league, you can contact Shaun at Head Office on 0333 123 2340.
We wish all teams good luck going into the penultimate week of this campaign with Worcester's premier providers of small sided football!
